Men's Soccer Takes Down Emmanuel

Box Score

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – A two-week break couldn't keep the Southern Wesleyan men's soccer team from putting together back-to-back wins, defeating Emmanuel 2-1 on Saturday night.

The Warriors have won back-to-back games for the first time since opening the season by winning three straight.  Douglas Andrade and Bruno Liozzi provided the goals for the Warriors.  Andrade got on the scoring column first, notching his seventh of the year in the 39th minute.  Raul Canelos picked up the assist.

Liozzi provided what amounted to the game winner in the 82nd minute.  Emmanuel answered in the 86th as Melvin Baldy-Gray cut the deficit to 2-1.  The Warriors were able to hold on for the win, despite playing the final 33 minutes without starting keeper Ruben Rodriguez who was sent off with a red card.  Rodriguez made two saves in the match as did Zack Wilson.

The Warriors earned four valuable points in the Lil' Bronze Peach race and hold a 6-4 advantage.  More importantly SWU gains points in the SSAC standings and is tied for fifth with Martin Methodist who is playing Belhaven tonight.  The top four teams will host a first round match in the SSAC tournament.

SWU will return home to host Faulkner on Friday, October 25 as part of Homecoming Weekend.  That match will begin at approximately 7 p.m.
