ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY
Returning/Continuing student-athletes will be evaluated on the following criteria to determine eligibility for practice or competition:
-- Credit Hour Requirement --
* Completion of 24 hours since the start of the previous year. 18 of these hours must be attained during the regular academic year. (fall and spring semester)
* Minimal completion of at least 9 hours during the last term enrolled full-time
-- Grade Point Average Requirement --
* A 2.0 GPA is required at the beginning of each academic year to be certified as eligible for the remainder of the year.
-- By the start of the 5th semester of enrollment, the student-athlete will be required to declare a major and all credit hours taken from this point forward will be applied toward that degree for graduation purposes.
-- In addition to meeting this criteria at the end of each semester, a student-athlete will have to be in "Good Academic Standing" determined by the institution AND be enrolled in 12 hours as a full-time student.

PRIVATE LESSONS
Division II student-athletes are allowed to conduct private lessons, however these lessons may not take place on the institution's campus or by using the athletic department equipment. Prior to offering a private lesson you should check with the compliance office
SOUTHERN WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY DRUG TESTING
Southern Wesleyan University student-athletes will be randomly drug tested throughout the academic year. For details surrounding the testing procedures and positive test result consequences see the Southern Wesleyan University Drug Testing Policy & Procedure section in the student-athlete handbook.
SPORTS WAGERING
NCAA rules prohibit student-athletes from participating in any gambling activity that involves any sport in which the NCAA conducts a championship. Wagering is considered to have taken place if the student-athlete puts something at risk for the chance to win something in return. This includes tournament bracket pools, fantasy leagues that meet the previously listed criteria. For more information, visit the NCAA Sports Wagering website.
EXTRA BENEFITS - WHAT IS AN "EXTRA BENEFIT"?
The NCAA defines an extra benefit as any special arrangement by an institutional employee or a representative of the institution's athletics interest (i.e., a "Representatives of Athletics Interests") to provide a student-athlete (or a student-athletes relative or friend) a benefit that is not generally available to other students and their relative and/or friends, unless expressly authorized by NCAA legislation. Therefore, please be aware of the following:
-- You cannot accept anything from an employee of Southern Wesleyan University athletics department or a Southern Wesleyan University Representative of Athletics Interests (e.g., use of a car, hair cut, clothing, gifts, money, payment of long distance telephone calls, etc.).
-- You cannot accept free or reduced cost room and/or board from an employee of the Southern Wesleyan University athletics department or Representatives of Athletics Interests of the SWU athletics programs. This includes in South Carolina, in your home city or any other location.
-- You cannot accept free or reduced-cost merchandise or services from any merchant unless that free or reduced-cost item is also available to the general public.
-- You cannot receive a special discount arrangement or credit on a purchase (e.g., airline ticket, clothing), or service (e.g., laundry, dry cleaning) from an employee of the Southern Wesleyan University athletics department or Representative of Athletics Interests.
-- You cannot eat at a restaurant as the guest of Representatives of Athletics Interests or an employee of the Southern Wesleyan University athletics department.
-- On infrequent, special occasions (e.g., a birthday, Thanksgiving, etc.) you may accept an invitation to the home of an employee of the athletics department or Representatives of Athletics Interests for a meal.
-- You cannot use a Department of Athletics copy machine, fax machine, or make long distance phone calls using departmental equipment or the long distance access code of an employee of the athletic department or Representative of Athletics Interests.
-- Staff members of the athletics department or Representatives of Athletics Interests are not permitted to type reports, papers, letters, etc., for you.
-- An employee of the athletics department or Representatives of Athletics Interests cannot provide you with a loan of money, a guarantee of a bond, the use of an automobile or the signing or co-signing of a note to arrange a loan.
-- An employee of the athletics department may provide you only reasonable and occasional local (i.e., within 30-mile radius of the campus) transportation. However, an employee of the athletics department may not utilize a University vehicle for purposes of assisting your move from one residence to another.
