How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan struck quickly in the game as just four minutes into the match, Leonardo Flores crossed the ball over to Ramon Estrada.  Estrada sent the ball into the top corner of the net to put the Warriors on the board.  However, a couple minutes later, a miscommunication on the back line resulted in an own goal that tied the game up.  Emmanuel continued to look to find the net as Leon Van Nguyen put up a shot, but Jonah Keoughan would not let the Lions take the lead.  After battling back and fourth for thirty minutes, David Leo Lund passed the ball up to Mason Councill.  Councill quickly flicked the ball over to Michael Boyle who took a couple steps before send the ball into the back of the net to put the Warriors on top.  Southern Wesleyan was not done as Boyle collected a pass from Sebastian Zumbado and scored a second time to put the Warriors ahead 3-1 at halftime.

The Warriors would not back down as just a couple minutes into the second half, Josiah Pitts got the ball up to Brody Schroeder.  Schroeder drove to the net to score and extend the Warriors lead to three.  The Lions fought back as Dom Chiuchiarelli and Pablo Medllin put up shots, but Southern Wesleyan thwarted each of the attacks on the net.  Emmanuel pulled Jonah Keoughan off the back line as John Ruetschle put up a shot, but Oscar Umana was able to protect the net from Ruetschle's attack.  However, the Lions attacks paid off as Medellin scored to cut the Warriors lead in half.  A foul in the box allowed Enzo Joly to take a penalty kick.  The ball found the back of the net to put the Lions to within one.  The Warriors were not done though as Mason Councill crossed the ball over to Luis Lezama.  Lezama netted the ball for his first goal in a Warrior uniform to allow Southern Wesleyan to take a 5-3 goal victory over the Lions of Emmanuel.
