Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan took down the Shorter Hawks in a 5-0 final on Tuesday evening.
The Warriors put up a massive 37 shots with 14 being on target in the victory over the Hawks. Peyton Hughes led the team with three shots on goal. Brianna Gonzalez led the team with two goals scored in the game to claim her first brace of the season. She was followed by Breena Duffy, Karina Pashkovets, and Hughes with one goal each. Ashley Caballero picked up two assists while Emily Lorenzo and Breena Duffy each had one assist. Hannah Weidner played all ninety minutes in goal and had a clean sheet.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan went on the offensive early on as Ashley Caballero and Emily Lorenzo each put up shots. The Warriors continued to pepper the goal, but Karis Eccleston and the Hawks defense were able to prevent the Warriors from taking the early lead. After thirty-five minutes of play, Lorenzo crossed the ball over to Brianna Gonzalez. Gonzalez got the ball into the back of the net to give the Warriors a 1-0 goal advantage at halftime.
The Warriors came out fast in the second half as Breena Duffy passed the ball up to Ashley Caballero who quickly sent it up to Brianna Gonzalez. Gonzalez sent the ball into the back of the net for her second goal of the afternoon. The Warriors were not done as just a couple minutes later Caballero's corner kick found Karina Pashkovets. Pashkovets headed the ball into the goal to extend the Warriors lead to 3-0. Southern Wesleyan continued to control the field as Duffy got the ball into the goal. Shorter was able to thwart several more attacks on the goal by Southern Wesleyan. The Warriors would not relent as Peyton Hughes found the net to score her first collegiate goal and give them a 5-0 goal victory over the Hawks.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will travel to Orangeburg, SC on September 26 to take on South Carolina State in a non-conference game at 2pm. They will then return to Childs Field on September 30 as they host the Emmanuel Lions at 4:30pm. On October 3, the Warriors will travel to Belmont, NC to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders.
