Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan shut out the Shorter Hawks on Tuesday evening in a 1-0 final score.
The Warriors out shot the Hawks 23 to 10 in the game. Ramon Estrada led the team with four of the nine shots on goal. Leonardo Flores had the lone goal of the game for the Warriors with Sebastian Zumbado picking up the assist. Jonah Keoughan played all ninety minutes in the goal and had three saves.

How It Happened
Shorter challenged the Warriors' defense early on as Alex Hernandez and Carter Morningstar put up back-to-back shots. However, Jonah Keoughan was able to control each of the attacks to prevent the Hawks from gaining the early advantage. Just under nine minutes into the half, Sebastian Zumbado took a corner kick and crossed the ball over to Leonardo Flores. Flores headed the ball into the net to give the Warriors the lead. Shorter would not relent as, with Keoughan pulled out of the net, Morningstar put up another shot. However, Lucas Di Marco was there and headed the ball away from the net. Southern Wesleyan continued to attack the net as Mason Councill, Zumbado, Michael Boyle and John Gonzalez each put up shots. However, the Hawks defense was able to thwart each of the Warriors attempts to extend their lead.
Southern Wesleyan picked up from where they left off as Josiah Pitts and Aron Bjarki Kristjansson put up shots early in the second half. However, Zachary Lunceford was determined to not let the Warriors find the back of the net as he saved each of the attacks. Ramon Estrada drove to the net, but once more Lunceford was there. The Hawks fought back, but the Warriors defense were able to force multiple turnovers and keep Shorter from attacking the net. The Warriors went on to win the game in a 1-0 final score.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will host the Pensacola Christian Eagles on September 26 at 5pm. Prior to the game, the Warriors will celebrate their 2026 senior class. They will remain at home on Childs Field on September 30 as they host the Emmanuel Lions at 7pm. On October 3, the Warriors will travel to Belmont, NC to take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders.
