Ferrum, VA – Southern Wesleyan stormed past the Ferrum Panthers in a thrilling 8-3 final on Saturday.
The Warriors put up 19 shots with 13 being on target in the victory over the Panthers. Madison Stanley and Lucia Fernandez led the Warriors with two goals apiece in the game. The other goals came off the feet of Maya Drew, Karina Pashkovets, Brianna Gonzalez, and Breena Duffy. Ashley Caballero led the team with two assists in the game. Emily Lorenzo, Gonzalez, Duffy, and Jessie Parrott also had assists in the game. Ester Carabano played all ninety minutes in the goal and had five saves.

How It Happened
Ashley Caballero put up an early shot on the goal in an attempt to get the Warriors on the board first, but Kailyn Myers collected the ball before it found the net. The Panthers answered with several attacks of their own, but the game remained in a stalemate until the twenty-seventh minute. Alicia Martinez got past the Warriors' defense to net the first goal of the game for the Panthers. Southern Wesleyan countered as Breena Duffy and Caballero put up several more shots, but Myers continued to defend the net. The Warriors attacks paid off seconds later as Jessie Parrott passed the ball over to Madison Stanley. Stanley got the ball into the net to tie the game up at one.
Southern Wesleyan picked up from where they left off in the second half as Brianna Gonzalez passed the ball up to Madison Stanley. Stanley sent the ball into the goal for her second goal of the game. Two minutes later, Gonzalez collected a pass from Breena Duffy and scored her first goal of the season. The Warriors would not back down as Ashley Caballero crossed the ball over to Maya Drew. Drew sent the ball into the goal to extend the Warriors lead to 4-1. Lucia Fernandez broke away from the pack and got the ball into the net for Southern Wesleyan's fifth goal of the game. Halfway through the second half, Ferrum answered the Warriors attacks as Breanna Herlihy got the ball into the net. With just over ten minutes left on the clock, Caballero passed the ball over to Duffy who scored her first collegiate goal. Seconds later, Herlihy scored her second goal of the game to put the Panthers behind the Warriors 6-3. Southern Wesleyan would not relent as back-to-back goals by Karina Pashkovets and Lucia Fernandez allowed the Warriors to win the game in an 8-3 final.
What's Next
The Warriors will return to Central, SC on September 22 as they host the Shorter Hawks on Childs Field at 3pm. They will then travel to Orangeburg, SC on September 26 to take on South Carolina State. On September 30, the Warriors will welcome the Emmanuel Lions to Central.
