Daytona Beach, FL – Southern Wesleyan fell in both of their games in day two of the Eagle Classic. They dropped their first game of the day to Mississippi College in a 12-5 final. Against West Alabama, the Warriors rallied late but were unable to pass the Tigers as they fell in a 4-3 final score.
The Warriors picked up eight hits in their first game of the day. Reagan Fulcher led the team with two hits including a double. Olivia Haag had a triple, and Abby Lawson picked up three RBIs in the form of her first collegiate home run. Haag had the first stolen base of the season for the Warriors and Abby Schreiner was hit by a pitch. Anicka McFarland made her collegiate debut in the circle and pitched four innings while striking out four batters. Both Emily Collins and Bailey Throckmorton came in to pitch in relief.
Southern Wesleyan had seven hits in their game against West Alabama. Reagan Fulcher led the team with two hits. Marissa Moreland had the lone extra base hit of the game as she doubled. Fulcher, Abby Schreiner and Harley Hoffman each had RBIs in the loss. The Warriors walked twice and Olivia Haag stole a base. Chloe Smith pitched a complete game in the circle and struck out one batter.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan vs Mississippi College
The Choctaws were first on the board in their second time facing the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan. After a triple off the bat of Fryar, Lavergne hit a sacrifice fly out to center field to bring Fryar in to score the first run of the game.
Fryar hit a two-run home run over the center field wall in the bottom of the second inning to extend Mississippi's lead to 3-0.
Southern Wesleyan answered in the top of the third inning. With one out, Riley Brown hit a single down the right field line. Reagan Fulcher followed by hitting a single into right field to allow Brown to advance to third. With runners on the corners, Chloe Smith came up to bat and hit a single to third base to bring Brown in to score Southern Wesleyan's first run of the game. Abby Lawson came up to bat and drilled the ball over the right center field wall for her first collegiate home run to give the Warriors a 4-3 run lead over the Choctaws. Olivia Haag hit the ball into right field for a triple to get into scoring position and bring Megan Ware up to bat. A fielding error by the Choctaw's shortstop allowed Ware to reach first base and brought Haag in to score.
Mississippi College tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth inning as a single by Fryar and a double by Lavergne allowed two runs to cross home plate.
The Choctaws brought seven more runs in to score in the bottom of the fifth inning to win the game in a 12-5 final score.
Southern Wesleyan vs West Alabama
West Alabama brought in their first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. The Tigers extended their lead in the third inning as they brought three runs in.
The Warriors got their first run of the game on the board in the top of the fifth inning. With two outs, Marissa Moreland came in to pinch hit and hit a double to left center field. Maddie Crouch came in to pinch run for Moreland as Reagan Fulcher came up to bat. Fulcher put the ball into play as a single to bring Crouch in to score.
Southern Wesleyan struck again in the top of the sixth inning. Chloe Smith led off the inning by reaching on a single to the shortstop. Smith advanced to second base as Abby Lawson sent the ball right past third base for a single. With two runners on, Olivia Haag was hit by a pitch to load up the bases. Abby Schreiner came up to bat and hit a single up the middle to bring Smith into score the Warriors second run of the game. Harley Hoffman hit a sacrifice fly to deep left field to bring Lawson in to score. However, the Warriors were not able to pass the Tigers as West Alabama claimed the game in a 4-3 final.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will remain in Daytona Beach, FL on February 7 as they take on the Tampa Spartans at 10am. The Warriors will compete in Lander's tournament on February 13-14 where they will face Emory & Henry, Middle Georgia and Lander during the two days.
