How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan charged out of the gate as Jessie Parrott sent the ball toward the goal just two minutes into the game. Her shot went just high to keep the Warriors off the board. The Warriors would not relent as Bailey Meyer got in a shot of her own, however Karis Eccleston was there to swat the ball away. Ashely Caballero drilled the ball toward the top of the net, but Eccleston jumped up and batted the ball away at the last second. Southern Wesleyan would not relent as they got in several more attacks on the goal before halftime.
The Hawks of Shorter attempted to get on the board early in the second half as Danilyn Sheats took a shot, but the Warriors defense were able to prevent her attack from paying off. Ashley Cerqueira wove around the defense and fired off a shot, but once more Karis Eccleston was there. Attacks by Jessie Parrott and Camila Blanco were also contained by Eccleston to prevent the Warriors from gaining the advantage. With just over twenty minutes left on the clock, Ella Beasley passed the ball up to Vitallia Benforte. Benforte touched the ball into the net to give the Warriors the lead. The Warriors looked to extend their lead with shots by Fianna Steves and Mackenzie Stinson, but none of their late attacks would find the net. Southern Wesleyan would claim a 1-0 goal victory over Shorter.
