Florence, SC – Southern Wesleyan dropped their road contest against the Francis Marion Patriots on Saturday afternoon in a 3-0 final score.
The Warriors totaled 25 kills in the match with Ainsley Stovall leading the team with eight kills in the contest. Amiyah Spann picked up 11 assists while Katie Fulton was right behind her with eight. Sarah Mitchell had the two aces of the match for Southern Wesleyan. The Warriors were able to block five attacks during the match with both Micheala Andress and Briley Wolff having two. Of the 40 digs in the match, Calie Covey led the team with eight. Both Katie Fulton and Alexxis Wader had seven digs.

How It Happened
Set One
The Patriots picked up the first point of the opening set as Madilyn Gartner got in a kill. Southern Wesleyan was able to get on the board after several attack errors by Francis Marion. Katelyn Baxley blocked an attack by Allison Miller to allow the Warriors to take a 6-4 point lead. A couple of kills by Baxley and an ace by Sarah Mitchell extended Southern Wesleyan's lead to 12-5. The Patriots fought back as kills by McKayla Stockwell, Gartner and Camryn Faggart put Francis Marion within one point of Southern Wesleyan. The Patriots went on a run as aces by Andrea Dulcher put them on top. Francis Marion claimed the first set in a 25-18 final.
Set Two
The Patriots jumped out early in the second set as McKayla Stockwell got in a kill and then blocked an attack by Kaylon Chapman. Amiyah Spann set the ball up for Ainsley Stovall. Stovall got in a kill to keep the Warriors within one. However, Francis Marion extended their lead off a kill by Caroline Lucas. Sarah Mitchell got in a kill for the Warriors, but it was not enough as Francis Marion went on a 10-point run that was jump started by a kill by Katie Kemp to extend their lead to 17-4. Calie Covey and Stovall were able to put down a couple of kills, but the Patriots prevailed to claim a 25-10 point victory in the second set.
Set Three
Madilyn Gartner got in the first kill of the final set. However, Briley Wolff answered seconds later to tie the set up at one. An ace by Katie Floyd allowed Francis Marion to regain a two point advantage. Francis Marion continued to distance themselves from Southern Wesleyan, but Michaela Andress collected a couple of sets by Amiyah Spann to put the Warriors behind the Patriots by five. Southern Wesleyan looked to go on the attack again, but Camryn Faggart and Caroline Lucas were able to block the attack by Ainsley Stovall. Sarah Mitchell served up her second ace of the match, and then both Andress and Kaylon Chapman put down some kills. However, a kill by Lucas allowed the Patriots to claim the final set 25-19 to win the match.
What's Next
The Warriors will return home to host the Young Harris Mountain Lions on September 24 at 6pm. They will remain at home on September 27 as they welcome the Chowan Hawks to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium at noon.
