How It Happened

The Hawks charged out of the gate as Tori Wolf scored her first goal of the game just seconds into the quarter.  Shorter would not back down as Wolf scored twice more.  The Warriors fought back with shots by Ella McCowen, but Alley Jones saved each of her attacks on the cage.  Shortly afterwards, Aleiza Manns flipped the ball over to McCowen who sent it into the cage to put the Warriors on the board.  Southern Wesleyan continued to chip away at Shorter's lead as McCowen and Hayley Billings scored back-to-back goals.  However, the Hawks answered with goals by Kaitlyn Dwyer-Pepper and Wolf.  A final second goal out of the stick of Lexi Richardson put the Warriors behind the Hawks 7-4.

Shorter came out quickly in the second quarter of the match as Rei Voight collected a pass from Kaitlyn Dwyer-Pepper and got the ball into the cage.  They continued their attacks as Cassidy Jones scored during a man-up situation to extend the Hawks lead to five goals.  The Warriors pressed on as Hayley Billings scored seconds later.  A foul in the eight meter allowed Mack Moreau to take a free position.  Moreau sent the ball into the back of the cage to allow the Warriors to cut the Hawks lead down to three with just over ten minutes left in the quarter.  Shorter thwarted several more attacks on the cage by Ella McCowen and Lexi Richardson before Aleiza Manns was about to weave past the defense and score the Warriors seventh goal of the evening.  However, the Hawks scored four more times to take a 13-7 goal lead at halftime.

Southern Wesleyan pepped the cage early in the third quarter as Hayley Billings and Fianna Steves each sent the ball in.  However, Alley Jones thwarted each attack to prevent Southern Wesleyan from cutting into Shorter's lead.  Olivia Masters gathered up a pass from Cassidy Jones and quickly got the ball into the back of the cage to extend the Hawks lead to seven.  The Hawks pushed on with several more attacks on the cage, but the Warriors defense blocked their attacks from paying off.  Jones finally got past the defense to score and give the Hawks a 15-7 goal advantage.  With just over five minutes left in the quarter, Hayley Billings got the ball over to Mack Moreau.  Moreau fired off a shot that found the back of the cage to keep the Warriors within eight.  Alezia Manns and Moreau each scored again.  However, the Hawks continued to press on as Tori Wolf picked up a free position goal in the final seconds of the third quarter.

The Hawks took a ten goal lead early in the fourth quarter as Olivia Masters scored during a man-up situation.  Mack Moreau went on the attack again, but Alley Jones would not let the senior out of Simpsonville cut into the Hawks lead.  Masters and Maggie Wallace each scored for the Hawks.  Southern Wesleyan pressed on as Aleiza Manns was able to get the ball over to Hayley Billings.  Billings ripped the ball into the net with just over five minutes remaining in the game.  With just over a minute left on the clock, Billings collected another pass from Manns and scored again.  However, the Warriors fell to the Hawks in a 22-12 final score.
