Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan swept away the Emmanuel Lions on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors claimed game one 6-1 before shutting out the Lions in game two 5-0.
The Warriors totaled nine hits in the first game of the afternoon. Madison Truett, Amberly Way, Avery Mercer, Rebecca Lamb and Camille Lui all doubled. Both Mercer and Lamb had two RBIs in the game. Lamb was the lone Warrior to walk and Talissa Cannady stole a base. Olivia Haag started the game in the circle and pitched three innings while striking out two batters. Emily Collins closed out the game for the Warriors and pitched four innings while striking out one batter.
Southern Wesleyan picked up 12 hits in game two. Amberly Way and Avery Mercer each homered. Maddie Crouch, Abby Schreiner and Chloe Smith all doubled during the game. Crouch led the team with two of the five RBIs. The Warriors walked twice and both Crouch and Smith stole bases. Chloe Smith pitched the complete game and struck out two batters. Southern Wesleyan's infield turn two double plays during the game.

How It Happened
Game One
The Warriors went on the offensive early in the game as, with one out in the bottom of the first inning, Madison Truett doubled to right center field. Amberly Way reached first on an error by the Lions' shortstop to allow Truett to advance to third. With both runners in scoring position, Avery Mercer flew out to center field to allow Truett to come in to score. Rebecca Lamb hit a single to center field to bring Way in to score to give Southern Wesleyan a 2-0 run advantage.
Southern Wesleyan extended on their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Avery Mercer led off the inning by hitting a single to right center field. With Ayden Leaphart pinch running for Mercer, Rebecca Lamb doubled to center field to allow Leaphart to come in and score. With two outs and Sarah Woody pinch running for Lamb, Talissa Cannady singled to left center field to allow Woody to come in to score to extend the Warriors' lead to 4-0.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Warriors struck again. With two outs, Amberly Way doubled to left field. Avery Mercer followed with a double of her own to bring Way in to score the fifth run of the game for the Warriors.
The Warriors were not done as they brought their final run in to score in the bottom of the sixth inning. Camille Luid led off by hitting a double through the left side. With two outs, Maddie Crouch singled to bring Lui in to score.
Emmanuel challenged in the top of the seventh inning as a single by Varner allowed Lester to score. However, the Warriors threw out Gooden's attempt to take home on the next play to prevent the Lions from scoring any more. The Warriors went on to win game one in a 6-1 final score.
Game Two
Amberly Way led off the scoring for the Warriors in game two as she sent the ball over the center field fence in the bottom of the first inning for a solo home run.
Southern Wesleyan extended their lead in the third inning. With two outs, Avery Mercer came up to the plate and sent the ball over the left center field wall to extend the Warriors' lead to 2-0.
The Warriors pushed on in the bottom of the fourth inning. Abby Schreiner led off the inning by hitting a single to center field. With Ayden Leaphart pinch runner for Schreiner, Olivia Haag ground out to the third baseman to allow Leaphart to advance to second. Talissa Cannady followed by hitting a single to left center field to put runners on the corners. A single by Chloe Smith allowed Leaphart to come in to score. Cannady was able to advance to third on the play. Smith then stole second to put both runners in scoring position and bring Maddie Crouch up to bat. Crouch hit a single to third base to bring Cannady in to score the fourth run of the game for Southern Wesleyan.
Southern Wesleyan attacked again in the bottom of the sixth inning. With one out, Chloe Smith doubled to center field. A double by Maddie Crouch allowed Smith to come in to score to give the Warriors a 5-0 run victory over Emmanuel.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will remain at home on March 25 as they host the Augusta Jaguars in non-conference action. They will then welcome the North Greenville Trailblazers (March 28) and the King Tornado (March 29) to Varsity Field. The Warriors will host the Shorter Hawks on April 1.
