Southern Wesleyan Announces Beddingfield as Head Golf Coach

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan is excited to announce David Beddingfield as the next head coach of the Warriors' Men's and Women's Golf programs.

"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Beddingfield to Southern Wesleyan University," said Vice President of Athletics Julia Reininga.  "He brings a wealth of golf experience, deep connections within the golf community, and, most importantly, a genuine heart for mentoring and developing student-athletes. We are confident he will lead our golf programs with integrity, excellence, and a strong commitment to the spiritual growth of our golfers."

After coaching in the Upstate and Georgia for over 30 years, Beddingfield joins the Warriors after most recently serving as the head coach of the men's and women's golf programs at Toccoa Falls College.  He joined the Screaming Eagles in the summer of 2024 as the first ever golf coach for the school.  Prior to his time at Toccoa Falls, Beddingfield served as a volunteer coach at both North Greenville (2021-22) and Southern Wesleyan (2017-18).  During both his stints with the Trailblazers and the Warriors, he was an instrumental part in assisting in practices and one-on-one instruction for the teams.

Beddingfield also spent time at the Cherokee Valley Golf Club in Travelers Rest, SC.  He served alongside both the pro shop and the outside staff where he assisted players with pace of play and other aspects around the range.

From 2019 to fall of 2023, Beddingfield worked with South Side Christian School as the golf coach.  During his time with the Sabres, he helped oversee both the boys and girls golf programs where he not only conducted practices, but also taught golf course management to the up-and-coming golfers.  While coaching the Sabres' men's program, the team advanced all the way to the state championship where they walked away as the state champions. That was not the beginning of his high school coaching career as he spent time at both Easley High School and DW Daniel High School as a head coach for one or both of the golf programs.  Throughout his high school coaching careers, one of his many highlights was seeing his players succeed and advance to the collegiate levels and watching their dreams come true.

"I am truly blessed and thankful for the opportunity to lead this program and work with such talented individuals," commented Beddingfield. "Joining our golf team means becoming part of a culture that values commitment, accountability, and respect for the game. Our primary focus remains on developing complete student-athletes—golfers who will grow on the course, excel in the classroom, and emerge as leaders within our university community. I would like to thank Vice President of Athletics Julia Reininga, Mike Gillespie and the entire athletic department for this opportunity."

Beddingfield resides in Piedmont, SC with his wife, and they have four children together.
