How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan went on the attack early as Jessie Parrott and Camila Blanco each looked to give the Warriors the lead. However, each attack was thwarted by Leira Rodriguez Najera. The Golden Rams countered with a couple attacks of their own, but Amanda Magnin was able to control each of their attacks. Just over nineteen minutes into the half, Blanco crossed the ball to the lower corner of the box. Fianna Steves was there and headed it into the goal to give the Warriors the lead and claim her first goal of the season. The Warriors continued their attacks as Laugane Dion put up a shot but Rodriguez Najera knocked it away. However, Vitallia Benforte collected the ball off the rebound and sent it into the back of the net to extend the Warriors lead to 2-0. A foul in the box allowed the Golden Rams to take a penalty kick. Jordyn Keene came up to the mark and attempted to get the ball into the net, but Magnin dove in front of it to prevent Albany State from getting on the board. The Golden Rams persisted seconds later as Keene crossed the ball over to Nelia Dailey who scored to make the game 2-1 at halftime.
Albany State tied the game up early in the second half as Sinatra Vaughn was able to score their second goal of the game just a minute into the half. Riley Webb drove the ball toward the net, but Leire Rodriguez Najera jumped up and caught the ball at the top of the net to prevent the Warriors from regaining their advantage. The Warriors continued to attack as both Brianna Gonzalez and Ella Beasley put up shots on the goal. However, Rodriguez Najera was there each time to keep the Warriors from gaining the advantage once again. The Golden Rams put up an attack of their own and Nelia Dailey was able to find the back of the net for the second time in the game. Attacks by Camila Blanco, Bailey Meyer and Ashley Cerqueira would not find the net. Southern Wesleyan fell to Albany State in a 3-2 final.
