Coach Meneses says...
"We had control of the game in the first half, but had trouble finding the back of the net. We made some adjustments at halftime and spoke about being more composed in the final third. Things clicked quickly in the second half and we found the back of the net three times in fifteen minutes. This was a good game for us as we now enter a tough stretch in our season. Congrats to Karina on her first collegiate hat trick!"
How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan charged out of the gate as Jessie Parrott and Bailey Meyer each attacked the goal, but Lilian Chirino Herrera saved each of the early attacks. The Warriors would not relent as they posted several more shots on the goal, but their shots were thwarted by the Yellow Jackets defense. Riley Webb passed the ball over to Bailey Meyer, who flipped it over to captain Fianna Steves. Steves collected the ball and drilled it into the net for the first goal of the game. Southern Wesleyan pushed on with shots by Alli Dalton and Taylor Carper, but Chirino Herrea prevented the Warriors from extending on their lead any further in the first half.
The Warriors picked up from where they left off in the second half as Riley Webb took a shot on the goal. Once again, Lilian Chirino Herrera saved the ball to prevent Southern Wesleyan from extending their lead. However, seconds later Fianna Steves passed the ball up to Hannah Kovalcik who drilled the ball into the net to put the Warriors on top by two. The Warriors continued to pepper the goal with shots by Steves, Kovalcik and Alli Dalton, but each of their shots ricocheted off of the woodwork. With thirty minutes left on the clock, Taylor Carper took a corner kick and sent it toward the net. Karina Pashkovets headed the ball passed the keeper's hands for her first goal of the game. Southern Wesleyan continued to press Allen's defense as Carper sent the ball up the field to Jessie Parrott who scored her first collegiate career goal to extend the Warriors lead to 4-0. A foul just outside the box allowed Pashkovets to come up to take a free kick. Pashkovets drilled the ball passed the goalkeeper and into the net for the fifth goal of the afternoon. Wynn Bradley wove past the Yellow Jackets and sent the ball into the back of the net, and then seconds later Pashkovets scored her third goal of the contest to extend the Warriors lead to seven. Allen countered with a shot on goal by Tatyana Machado, but Natalie Trudell collected the ball to prevent the Yellow Jackets from getting on the board. The Warriors won the game in a 7-0 final score.
