How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan attacked the net early on in the first half of the game with shots by Alli Dalton, Ashley Cerqueira, Miley Tjoelker and Ella Beasley, but each of the attacks were thwarted by the strong Wolves defense.  The Warriors would not relent as Bailey Meyer drove the ball toward the goal, but her shot sailed high.  Newberry countered as Emily Castaneda sent the ball toward the net, but Amanda Magnin dove on top of it to keep the Wolves scoreless.  The Wolves persisted as Natalie Ruiz crossed the ball over to Isabella Tellez who tapped it in to give Newberry the lead after thirty-eight minutes of play.

The Warriors charged out of the gate in the second half as Bailey Meyer drove the ball toward the net once again.  However, Wolves' goalkeeper Sarah Waller prevented Meyer's shot from reaching the back of the net to tie the game.  Southern Wesleyan pushed on as with just under thirty minutes left on the clock, Jessie Parrott wove around the defense and fired off a shot, but her shot went left of the goal.  Despite more shots by Alli Dalton, Meyer and Ella Beasley, the Warriors fell to the Wolves in a 1-0 final score.
