How It Happened

Game One

The Trojans attacked the plate quickly as a home run off the bat of Kylie Emanuele put them on top 3-0 in the top of the first inning.  They pushed ahead with runs in the top of the second and third innings before Southern Wesleyan was able to get on the board.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Warriors challenged to come to within five runs of Mount Olive.  With one out, Avery Mercer walked.  Chalee Rope came in to pinch run for Mercer and advanced to second base when Hannah Truett was hit by a pitch.  With two out and two on base, Amberly Way drilled the ball over the center field wall to put Southern Wesleyan down 8-3.

Mount Olive brought two more runs in to score in the top of the fourth inning off a home run by Best.

The Warriors struck again in the bottom of the fourth inning.  With two outs, Taylor Palfrey hit a line drive toward the pitcher for a single and then stole second base.  Addi Johnson walked.  A wild pitch allowed both runners to advance a base.  Avery Mercer came up to the plate and, after fouling off several balls, hit a rocket over the wall at right center to cut the Trojans lead down to 10-6.

However, Mount Olive struck again in the top of the fifth and sixth innings to take a 13-6 run lead.

Southern Wesleyan was not done as they plated two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.  With two outs, Addi Johnson doubled to center field.  Avery Mercer followed by hitting her second home run of the afternoon to bring Johnson in and make the score 13-8.

The Trojans brought in three more runs in the top of the seventh to take game one in a 16-8 final score.

Game Two

Mount Olive took the first runs of game two as they brought two runs in to score in the top of the first inning.  They extended their lead with runs in the top of the second and third innings.

The Warriors countered in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Hannah Truett reached first after being hit by a pitch.  Amberly Way then hit a single to right field to allow Truett to advance to second.  With two runners on base, Olivia Haag hit a single up the middle that brought Truett in to score the Warriors first run of the game.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Trojans brought in two more runs to extend their lead to 8-1.

Southern Wesleyan challenged in the bottom of the seventh inning.  With one out, Addi Johnson reached first after being hit by a pitch.  Avery Mercer came up to bat and hit a deep home run down the left field line.  However, the Warriors fell to the Trojans in an 8-3.
