Southern Wesleyan Falls in Non-Conference Match to Limestone

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan dropped the non-conference match-up against the Limestone Saints on Wednesday evening in a 20-6 final score.

The Warriors totaled eight hits with three coming off the bat of Gage Shaver in the loss to the Saints.  Shaver, Clay Porter and Jarrett Whitley each doubled.  Shaver, Chase Gribble and Porter each had RBIs.  Southern Wesleyan walked six times.

Southern Wesleyan had 10 players appear on the mound against the Saints.  Kyle Dixon started the game and struck out one batter in the inning he pitched.  Both Garrett Swink and Gage Shaver struck out two batters.  The other strikeout of the game came from Chase McKelvey.

How It Happened

Limestone struck first as doubles by Greenberg, Troyer and Love brought seven runs in to score in the top of the third inning.

The Warriors countered in the bottom of the third inning.  With one out, Clay Porter walked.  Gage Shaver followed as he hit the ball down the right field line for a single that allowed Porter to advance to third.  A wild pitch allowed Porter to come in to score and advance Shaver to second.  With two outs, Cam Mitchem walked.  A single by Chase Gribble brought Shaver in and put Southern Wesleyan behind the Saints 7-2.

The Saints took an 11-2 run lead in the top of the fourth inning off a couple singles and an error by the Warriors' pitcher.

Southern Wesleyan was not done as they plated two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.  With one out, TJ Highsmith hit a single through the right side and then advanced to second when Blayze Haddock walked.  Clay Porter came up to bat and drilled the ball down the right field line for a double that allowed Highsmith to score.  With two runners in scoring position, Gage Shaver grounded out to first base to bring Haddock in to put the Warriors down 11-4.

Limestone would not back down as they scored in the top of the fifth, sixth and eighth innings.

The Warriors brought two more runs in to score in the bottom of the ninth inning.  With one out, Luke Staton walked and then advanced to third when Gage Shaver hit a double down the left field line.  Back-to-back wild pitches allowed both Staton and Shaver to come in to score.  However, Southern Wesleyan fell to the Saints in a 20-6 final score.

 

 

 

 

 

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will travel to St. Petersburg, FL on March 29-30 to take on the Eckerd College Tritons.  The Warriors will then travel to Rome, GA to take on the Shorter Hawks at 1pm on April 2.  They will remain on the road on April 5-6 as they take on the University of Mount Olive Trojans.
