Columbia, SC – Southern Wesleyan claims top spots at John Hunter Classic hosted by Columbia International over the weekend.

Track Events
200m: In the 200 meters, sophomore Makayla Wilson finished in fifth with a time of 25.94. Behind her Alyse Davis took 10th with a time of 26.84. Davis was closely followed by Cianna Laginestra and TraVon Lay. Laginestra took 11th with a time of 26.97 and Lay finished in 12th with a time of 26.90. Taking 13th was senior Lauryn Tate who finished with a time of 26.98. Sarah Richardson took 15th with a time of 27.29.
100m Prelims: Makayla Wilson led the Warriors in the preliminaries of 100 meters as she took fourth with a time of 12.27 to qualify. Both Sarah Richardson and Cianna Laginestra joined her in qualifying after the preliminaries. Richardson took seventh with a time of 12.89 and Laginestra took eighth with a time of 12.96. Meshayla Maddox took 14th with a time of 13.90 and Alana Webster finished in 18th with a time of 14.23.
100m Finals: In the finals of the 100 meters, Makayla Wilson took third place as she finished with a time of 12.20. She was followed by Sarah Richardson, who took sixth with a time of 12.80. Cienna Laginestra took seventh with a time of 13.07.
1500m: Merritt Smith finished in 11th in the 1500 meters as she crossed the finish line with at time of 5:11.64. Smith was followed by Emma Dixon and Divinity Ervin. Dixon took 16th with a time of 5:25.14 and Ervin took 18th with a time of 5:32.84. Junior Janey Dixon finished in 20th with a time of 5:38.76. Taking 22nd was senior Haley Morgan who finished with a time of 5:46.94. Gisselle Lopez wrapped up the field for the Warriors as she took 29th with a time of 6:17.59.
4x100 Meter Relay: The Warriors team of Kayla Lema, TraVon Lay, Cienna Laginestra, and Sarah Richardson finished in third place with a time of 49.72.
800m: In the 800 meters, Merritt Smith took sixth with a time of 2:33.23. Divinity Ervin and Emma Dixon were the next two Warriors to finish. Ervin just beat out Dixon for 10th place with a time of 2:38.92. Dixon took 11th with a time of 2:40.45. Junior Janey Dixon was the next Warrior to finish as she took 12th with a time of 2:43.24. Giesselle Lopez wrapped up the field for the Warriors as she took 19th with a time of 3:10.52.
100mh: TraVon Lay led the Warriors in the 100 meter hurdles. Lay's time of 15.21 allowed her to take third place. She was followed by fellow junior Kayla Lema who took fifth with a time of 15.46.
400mh: Kayla Lema led the whole field in the 400 meter hurdles as she finished with a time of 1:08.57 to take first place.
Field Events
Javelin: Alexandria Luther finished in 2nd place in the javelin as she through a distance of 30.91 meters. Luther was followed by Lakin Long and Gracie Wilson. Long took ninth with a throw of 20.96m and Wilson finished in 10th with a throw of 18.26m.
High Jump: Gavi Elswick led the whole field in the high jump as she claimed first with a cleared height of 1.39m.
Hammer: Alexandria Luther took 10th in the hammer with a throw of 32.80m. Right behind her, Lakin Long finished in 11th with a throw of 31.65m. Gracie Wilson claimed 13th with a throw of 24.09m.
Shot Put: In the shot put, Alexandria Luther finished fifth after throwing a distance of 9.90m. Lakin Long took ninth with a throw of 8.84 meters, and Gracie Wilson took 11th with a throw of 8.12m.
Discus: Gracie Wislon took fifth in the discus as she threw 34.46m. Finishing in eighth, Alexandria Luther threw a distance of 28.61m. Lakin Long wrapped up the field for Southern Wesleyan as she threw 23.28m to take 10th place.
Long Jump: Makayla Wilson took second place in the long jump as she cleared a distance of 5.08m. Behind her, freshman Zy'Adriya Johnson took fourth with a jump of 4.79m.
Triple Jump: In the triple jump, Zy'Adriya Johnson finished second as she jump a distance of 9.91m.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will travel to Montreat, NC on March 22-23 to compete at the Montreat Invitational. They will then return home on March 29 as they host the Gotta Run Invite at the Joe R Gilbert Track and Field Complex in Central, SC. The Warriors will take part in the Electric City Invite on April 12-13.
