Game Vitals:

Final: Southern Wesleyan University 56, Francis Marion University 78

Records: Southern Wesleyan University (8-13, 5-6), Francis Marion University (15-5, 10-1)

How It Happened:

The Warriors opened with their usual starting five today: Lexi Greffen, Tristen Berry, Kaliah Kendrick, Shelby Glance, and Alexis Glover. On their opening possession, SWU had a couple of good looks and got two offensive rebounds, but couldn't convert. Their first bucket came just inside the 8:00 mark as Greffen assisted Glover for a layup, and their first lead came a couple of minutes later as Greffen dished to Dynasty Shegog who drove and finished for two. However, the Warriors found themselves in some early trouble as Francis Marion closed the opening quarter on a 13-2 run. The Patriots' hot offensive stretch continued into the second as their lead grew to as big as 16. During that run, the Warriors went seven minutes without a field goal, before Rahkhia Mack's layup ended the rut. FMU's Trinity Adams had 21 first-half points, including a jumper as time expired to increase the Patriot lead back to fourteen.

Shelby Glance and Taylin Smith each hit threes early in the second half, but the Patriots went on a 14-0 run from the 5:15 to 0:45 marks of the third quarter to continue to build a sizable lead. Warrior Freshman Jordan Race flashed some of her potential in the fourth quarter, scoring all 11 points and shooting 4-4 from the field in the period. That was enough for a new Career-High for the Wellington, Florida native, but not enough for a late SWU comeback.

What's Next:

Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road for the next two games, facing off with North Greenville on Wednesday, February 7th, and Barton on Saturday, February 10th. The Warriors' next home game is Wednesday, February 14th, when they host Young-Harris College.
