Southern Wesleyan Unable to Pass Mount Olive on Senior Day

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan dropped a hard fought battle against the University of Mount Olive Trojans in a 62-57 final score on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors shot 44.7% from the field in the loss to the Trojans.  Lexi Greffen led the team with 12 points.  Shelby Glance had 10 points and Kaliah Kendrick picked up eight points.  Of the 12 assists, Glance had five and Greffen had four.

Southern Wesleyan totaled 40 rebounds.  Shelby Glance pulled down 11 boards to give her a double-double.  Both Glance and Rahkhia Mack had two blocks.  The Warriors stole the ball nine times with Mack leading the team with four steals.

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan took the first points of the game off a three pointer by Kaliah Kendrick, however a three pointer by Reagan Hune allowed the Trojans to tie the game up.  Laila Anderson collected a rebound and then raced down the court to lay the ball up.  The Trojans continued to distance themselves on a three pointer by Hune.  Southern Wesleyan fought back as Shelby Glance sent the ball beyond the arc to Lexi Greffen.  Greffen fired off a three pointer to keep the Warriors within six.  Rahkhia Mack laid the ball up into the basket.

The Trojans pushed on with a jump shot by Tiandria Tucker.  Kaliah Kendrick stepped beyond the arc and hit a three pointer to allow the Warriors to tie the game.  A three out of the hands of Tristen Berry allowed the Warriors to take a four point lead over the Trojans.  Southern Wesleyan pushed on with layups by Lexi Greffen and Dynasty Shegog.  A layup by Tristen Berry allowed the Warriors to take a ten point lead with just under five minutes left on the clock.  Mount Olive fought back as they came to within five of the Warriors on free throws by Laila Anderson.  Southern Wesleyan led 29-24 at the half.

Mount Olive kicked off the third quarter with a three pointer by Laila Anderson.  However, the Warriors regained their six point lead as Alexis Glover hit back-to-back layups.  The Trojans would not relent as Tiandria Tucker laid the ball up into the basket.  Lexi Greffen stepped beyond the arc and hit another three pointer.  However, Alexis Durham picked up a rebound and sent it down the court to Anderson for her to lay the ball up into the basket.

A three pointer by Regan Hune allowed the Trojans to tie the game up at forty-three points apiece.  They pushed on with back-to-back baskets by Laila Anderson to give the Trojans a five point lead.  Kaliah Kendrick laid the ball up into the basket from in the paint to keep the Warriors within two points of the Trojans.  A layup by Shelby Glance allowed the Warriors to tie the game back up. Tristen Berry sent the ball under the basket to Asia Pearly for a layup to give the Warriors a 57-56 point lead.  However, free throws allowed the Trojans to win the game in a 62-57 final score.

Southern Wesleyan will wrap up the regular season on February 28 as they host the Emmanuel Lions at 5pm.
