Warriors Soar Past Flying Fleet on the Road

Due West, SC – Southern Wesleyan took down the Erskine Flying Fleet on Wednesday evening in a 73-60 final score.

The Warriors shot 50% from the field and were 78.6% from the free throw line.  Lexi Greffen led the team with 16 points with Asia Pearly right behind her with 15.  Southern Wesleyan totaled 14 assists with Kaliah Kendrick picking up three.

The Warriors pulled down 39 rebounds.  Kaliah Kendrick led the way with 10.  Shelby Glance had two of the five blocks.  The Warriors stole the ball seven times.

How It Happened

Erskine took the first points of the game off a jump shot by Carmen Chandler.  However, the Warriors countered with a jumper by Tristen Berry.  Kaliah Kendrick passed the ball down the court to Alexis Glover who laid the ball up into the basket off a fast break.  With just under five minutes on the clock, Lexi Greffen fired off a shot from beyond the arc.  The Flying Fleet came back to within three points of the Warriors on a three pointer by Ianna Odulaja.

A jump shot by Shanece Mitchell allowed the Flying Fleet to kick off the second quarter.  They pushed on as a three pointer by Carmen Chandler allowed Erskine to tie the game up.  Asia Pearly passed the ball over to Jordan Race.  Race sunk the ball from beyond the arc to regain the Warriors three point lead.  Pearly laid the ball up into the basket.  Back-to-back baskets by Shelby Glance extended the Warriors lead to eight.  A last second basket by Pearly gave the Warriors a 35-25 point lead at halftime.

Carmen Chandler hit a jump shot, but the Warriors countered with a jumper by Kaliah Kendrick.  Seconds later, Kendrick passed the ball over to Dynasty Shegog who laid it up into the basket from in the paint.  A layup by Rahkhia Mack extended the Warriors lead to sixteen.  The Flying Fleet chipped away at their lead as a three pointer by Albany Wilson put them back within ten.

A three pointer by Anzya Cook put Erskine back within four of Southern Wesleyan, but Lexi Greffen hit a jump shot shortly afterwards to extend it back up to six.  Alexis Glover passed the ball out beyond the arc to Greffen for her to hit a three pointer.  Southern Wesleyan pushed on as Kaliah Kendrick raced down the court and put up a jump shot.  With just over five minutes on the clock, Asia Pearly put up a jump shot of her own.  Shelby Glance stole the ball away from the Flying Fleet and sent it down the court to Greffen.  Greffen hit the jump shot to give the Warriors a fifteen point lead.  The Warriors took down the Flying Fleet in a 73-60 point final.

What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will return to Central, SC for their final two regular season games.  The Warriors will host the University of Mount Olive Trojans on February 24 at 2pm for senior day.  They will then welcome the Emmanuel Lions to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on February 28 at 5pm.
