Three Pointers Lead Warriors to Victory over Valkyries

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan took down the Converse Valkyries on Saturday afternoon in a 68-56 final score.

The Warriors shot 40.7% from the field including shooting 47.6% from the beyond the arc.  Kaliah Kendrick led the team with 15 points with Shelby Glance following with 11 points.  Of the 14 assists, Lexi Greffen had four.  Both Glance and Tristen Berry had three assists.

Southern Wesleyan pulled down 45 rebounds with Shelby Glance picking up nine on her own.  Lexi Greffen had seven rebounds and Asia Pearly had six.  Glance blocked the Valkyries attacks four times.  The Warriors stole the ball six times.

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan jumped out early as Tristen Berry collected a defensive rebound and passed it over to Shelby Glance.  Glance drilled a three pointer.  The Valkyries countered with a layup by Jordan Brown, but a three out of the hands of Kaliah Kendrick extended the Warriors lead up to four. Sydney Wilson laid the ball up for the Valkyries, and then a three pointer by Alisa Davenport gave them a 9-8 point lead with just over four minutes on the clock.  A layup by Dynasty Shegog allowed the Warriors to regain the lead.

Taylin Smith kicked off the second quarter with a jump shot and then a layup by Asia Pearly put the Warriors ahead by three.  Jordan Race stepped beyond the arc to hit a three.  Converse continued to battle as Alisa Davenport laid the ball up into the basket.  Smith put up a three pointer and then Shelby Glance put a jumper up to extend the Warriors lead to eleven.  With two minutes left on the clock, Lexi Greffen passed the ball out beyond the arc to Kaliah Kendrick who sunk the three.  Converse challenged in the final seconds of the quarter with baskets by Sydney Wilson and Jordan Brown, but the Warriors led 32-22 going into the locker room.

A layup by Sydney Wilson allowed the Valkyries to come to within seven, but the Warriors countered with a jump shot by Alexis Glover.  Lexi Greffen laid the ball up into the basket.  With just over six minutes left on the clock in the quarter Shelby Glance blocked the attack by the Valkyries.  Rahkhia Mack collected the blocked shot and passed it over to Alexis Glover who put up a jump shot to extend the Warriors lead to twelve.  Converse continued to counter the Southern Wesleyan attacks as Reagan Cameron and Sydney Wilson each hit baskets.  With three minutes on the clock, Jordan Brown laid the ball up to tie the game up at forty points apiece.  The tie was short lived as Asia Pearly sunk the ball into the basket from beyond the arc.

The Warriors kicked off the final quarter with a layup by Kaliah Kendrick.  Taylin Smith passed the ball out beyond the arc to Shelby Glance.  Glance fired off a three to extend the Warriors lead to nine.  Jordan Race hit a three to allow the Warriors to regain a ten point lead over the Valkyries.  Southern Wesleyan continued to thrive beyond the arc as Kendrick and Tristen Berry each scored.  Zariyah Washington put up a three to keep Converse within ten.  The Warriors went on to win the game in 68-56 final score.

 

 

 

 

What's Next

The Warriors will travel to Due West, SC on February 21 as they take on the Erskine Flying Fleet.  They will then return home on February 24 as they take on the University of Mount Olive Trojans at 2pm.  Southern Wesleyan will wrap up the regular season on February 28 as they host the Emmanuel Lions.
