How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan went on the attack quickly as Alberto Esquivel drove the ball toward the back of the net, but Emmanuel's goalkeeper, Natxo Faus, dove on the ball to prevent the ball from finding the net.  The Warriors remained on the offensive as Noah Koch took an attack on the net, but his shot was blocked by the Lions defense.  The Lions countered with a shot off the foot of Nathan Walker, but Luke Bramblett was there to get in the way of the ball finding the net.  The Warriors pushed on with shots by Koch and Feren Nunez, but once more the Lions blocked the attack.

Early in the second half, a foul by Matt Fitzer allowed Feren Nunez to take a free kick.  Nunez sent the ball toward the net and Josiah Pitts headed it into the goal to give the Warriors the lead.  The lead was short lived as minutes later, Colin Wedderburn scored to allow Emmanuel to tie the match back up.  The Lions continued to pepper the goal with shots by Matt Fitzer and Tomas Pollacchi, but Luke Bramblett and the Warriors back line thwarted each of the attacks.  Southern Wesleyan countered with attacks of their own, but neither Michael Boyle or Brody Schroeder's shots could find the back of the net.  With just over twenty minutes remaining, Nathan Walker sent the ball into the net to give the Lions the advantage.  Despite several more shots by Feren Nunez and Lucas Di Marco, the Warriors fell to the Lions in a 2-1 final.
