How It Happened:
The Warriors started on the front foot tonight creating chances from the off. They drew two quick corner kicks five minutes in, the second resulting in a big chance for
Luke Burleson which was well saved by Carolina goalkeeper William Cothill. Burleson was very bright in the opening stages of the match, pressing hard and making good runs. However, nine minutes in the Bruins would take the lead through Carlos Ramirez. After defensive clearance sent Luigi Piccoli into space, the Bruin forward made his way down the right wing and found Ramirez alone at the back post to put Carolina in front 1-0. That was the only chance the Bruins created in the first half, but it was all they needed to take a lead into the locker room. The Warriors started the second half as they did the first, and were the better team for the majority of the game. SWU dominated in possession and in chances created, but couldn't find a finish to go with it. They continued to pry the Bruin defense in hopes of an equalizer, but Carolina began to threaten in counter-attack. After the SWU made some changes with Friday's matchup with Conference Carolinas foe Mount Olive in mind, Carolina began to attack with more quality. Atikilt Tamiru scored their second of the match in the 80th minute, and that would seal the road victory for the Bruins.
Caden DeFronzo was named the "Warriors' Spark Plug of the Game", a team-selected award for a player who brought high energy and an impactful performance. Caden was solid in defense for the team and also had some nice combination play down the left wing.
What's Next:
The Warriors will resume conference play on Friday, September 29th with a trip to Mount Olive followed by Emmanuel at Childs Field on Tuesday, October 3rd.
