Late Rally Not Enough to Edge Warriors Past Bulldogs

Wilson, NC – Southern Wesleyan dropped the final game of the series against the Barton Bulldogs on Friday afternoon in a 5-2 final score.

The Warriors totaled four hits in the loss.  Tyler Jackson and Dawson Gilstrap both doubled during the game.  Both Jackson and Gilstrap picked up RBIs.  Southern Wesleyan walked six times.  Mikah Gustavson started on the mound and pitched 4.1 innings while striking out three.  Josh Fenton and Sandy Johnson came in to pitch in relief.

How It Happened

Barton took an early 3-0 run lead in the bottom of the first inning as a single by McNamee, wild pitch and sacrifice fly out by Beebe brought three runners in to score.

Southern Wesleyan challenged in the top of the fourth inning.  Noah Wiggins led off the inning with a walk and then advanced to second on a ground out by Josh LongTyler Jackson then drilled the ball to center field for a double that brought Wiggins in to score.  Dawson Gilstrap followed with a double of his own, this time to right field, to drive home Jackson and put the Warriors back within a run of the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs attacked again in the bottom of the fifth inning to win the game in a 5-2 final score.
 
 



 
What's Next

The Warriors will return to Dr. C Keith Connor Field as they host the Anderson Trojans on April 11 at 6 p.m.  Southern Wesleyan will travel to Gaffney, SC on April 12 to take on the Limestone Saints before returning to Central, SC to host the University of Mount Olive Trojans on April 14-15.
