Due West, SC – Southern Wesleyan picked up their second conference victory of the season on Saturday as they defeated the Erskine Flying Fleet in a 20-10 final score.
The Warriors picked up 49 shots and 36 shots on goal in the victory over the Flying Fleet. Lauryn Esposito led the team with 11 shots on goal while Fianna Steves followed with eight and Jocelyn Cosgrove picking up seven. Esposito and Cosgrove each had six goals. Steves followed with three goals and Yael Echeverria had two. Karla Gordon, Anita Renee Rhodes and Kali Letcher each picked up solo goals. Rhodes and Esposito each recorded three of the 10 assists.
Southern Wesleyan won 12 draw controls with Fianna Steves leading the team with six. The Warriors caused 13 turnovers during the game. Karla Gordon and Steves each led the team in ground balls with seven. Caroline Lark played all sixty minutes in goal and made four saves.

How It Happened
Erskine took the first goal of the afternoon as Kristie Fisher scored early on. The Flying Fleet attacked again, but Caroline Lark saved the attack from paying off. Southern Wesleyan countered as a foul in the eight meter allowed Jocelyn Cosgrove to take a free position shot. Cosgrove sent the ball into the cage to tie the game up. The Flying Fleet pushed ahead as Korenza Heath scored. The Warriors continued to challenge the Flying Fleet as Fianna Steves and Yael Echeverria attacked the cage, but Madelyn Rogers saved the attacks from paying off. Echeverria attacked the cage again, this time getting the ball into the back of the cage to allow the Warriors to tie the game back up. Seconds later, Lauryn Esposito scored her first goal of the game to put Southern Wesleyan back on top by one. Southern Wesleyan would not relent their attacks, but Rogers were able to save the attacks by Steves and Esposito. Last second goals by Fisher and Heath allowed the Flying Fleet to take a 4-3 goal lead.
The Fleet took the first goal of the second half as Anna Ferrebee collected a pass from Korenz Heath to score. However, the Warriros fought on as Lauryn Esposito passed the ball over to Yael Echeverria. Echeverria sent the ball into the cage. Fianna Steves won the draw and attacked the cage, but Madelyn Rogers saved the attack from paying off. Southern Wesleyan maintain their attacks as both Lauryn Esposito and Yael Echeverria sent the ball toward the cage, but once again their attacks were deterred by the Flying Fleet defense. The Warriors tied the game up as Anita Renee Rhodes put the ball into the cage. They maintained their attacks as Fianna Steves scored her second goal of the quarter to give them the lead. Back-to-back goals by Jocelyn Cosgrove and Lauryn Esposito allowed the Warriors to extend their lead to three goals. With just under three minutes on the clock, Rhodes passed the ball over to Esposito who put it into the cage. The Warriors continued to push ahead as seconds later Jocelyn Cosgrove sent the ball into the cage off a pass from Steves. A last second goal by Lauryn Esposito allowed the Warriors to take an 11-5 goal lead at halftime.
The Flying Fleet challenged in the third quarter as they scored three consecutive goals to put them back within three goals of the Warriors. Southern Wesleyan regained a four goal lead a minute later as Jocelyn Cosgrove flipped the ball into the cage. Anna Ferrebee scored to put Erskine down 12-9. However, the Warriors would not relent their attacks as Mack Moreau, Yael Echeverria and Lauryn Esposito each sent shots toward the cage. The Flying Fleet blocked their attacks to keep the Warriors from extending their lead further. The Warriors attacks once again paid off as Karla Gordon got the ball over to Cosgrove. Cosgrove put the ball in to give the Warriors a four goal lead. Southern Wesleyan's attacks continued to pay off as Lauryn Esposito gave the ball to Fianna Steves. Steves scored her third goal of the afternoon to extend the Warriors lead to 14-9. With just over five minutes left in the quarter, Esposito scored yet again. Kali Letcher passed the ball over to Jocelyn Cosgrove who weaved around and put the ball into the cage. Esposito continued to attack the cage to score the seventeenth goal of the afternoon for the Warriors.
Southern Wesleyan continued their intensity in the final quarter as Karla Gordon, Nyah Garner and Lexi Richardson each took shots on the goal. However, their shots were thwarted by Madelyn Rogers and the Flying Fleet defense. Richardson passed the ball over to Fianna Steves. Steves sent the ball into the cage to put the Warriors lead at nine. A foul in the eight meter allowed Erskine to take free position shot and Jenna Varner put the ball into the cage. The Warriors were not discouraged as Kali Letcher and Jocelyn Cosgrove each sent the ball toward the cage. However, Madelyn Rogers prevent the Warriors from extending their lead any further. Another foul in the either meter allowed Karla Gordon to take a free position attempt. Gordon sent the ball into the back of the cage to put the Warriors on top by nine with just over a minute left on the clock. The Warriors were not done as Anita Renee Rhodes passed the ball over to Kali Letcher. Letcher put the ball into the cage for her first career goal and to give the Warriors a 20-10 goal victory over the Flying Fleet.

Southern Wesleyan will next travel to Hartsville, SC on April 18 to take on the Coker Cobras at 6 pm. They will wrap up the regular season on April 21 at 6 pm as they travel up to the mountains of Banner Elk, NC to take on the Lees-McRae Bobcats.
