Hartsville, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Coker Cobras in a 21-9 final score on Tuesday evening.
The Warriors took 19 shots and had 15 shots on goal. Yael Echeverria led the team with eight shots on goal. She was followed by Anita Renee Rhodes with three shots on goal and both Fianna Steves and Jocelyn Cosgrove with two shots on goal. Echeverria led the team with five goals. Steves picked up two goals, and solo goals came from Rhodes and Cosgrove. Both Jocelyn Cosgrove and Yael Echeverria had assists.
Southern Wesleyan won five draws with Fianna Steves leading the team with three draws. Nyah Garner led the team with four caused turnovers. She was followed by Steves with three caused turnovers. The Warriors picked up twelve ground balls. Garner led the team with four with Karla Gordon following with three. Caroline Lark played all sixty minutes in goal and recorded seven saves.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan took the first goal of the game as Yael Echeverria quickly put the ball into the cage. However, the lead was short lived as Hailey Morgan scored to tie the game up. The Warriors challenged as Jocelyn Cosgrove took a shot on the goal, but Zoe Cotheran saved the attack from paying off. The Cobras countered with a goal off a foul in the eight meter to put them ahead by one. The Warriors would not relent as Echeverria scored her second goal of the afternoon. Coker put in back-to-back goals by Abby Gross and Amanda Arguello to give the Cobras a 4-2 goal advantage. Coker continued to push ahead and thwart the Warriors attacks.
The Warriors fought on in the second quarter as Yael Echeverria took shots on the goal, but Zoe Cotheran stood strong in the cage to defy the attacks. Southern Wesleyan pushed on as Anita Renee Rhodes collected the ball and put it into the cage. The Cobras took a seven goal advantage on a man-up goal by Mia MacMillan. However, a goal by Jocelyn Cosgrove allowed the Warriors to come back to within six goals seconds later. The Warriors cleared the ball down the field and got it to Yael Echeverria. Echeverria passed the ball over to Fianna Steves who sent the ball into the cage for her first goal of the afternoon. Back-to-back by Abbey Gross and Hailey Morgan allowed Coker to push their lead to eight goals. Yael Echeverria won a draw and quickly put the ball into the cage. However, the Cobras led the Warriors 14-6 at halftime.
Coker kicked off the third quarter as Madeline Hart put the ball into the cage. The Warriors countered as Yael Echeverria put the goal back into the cage once again. The Cobras challenged again, but Caroline Lark and the Warriors defense saved the attack and cleared the ball down the field. Jocelyn Cosgrove passed the ball over to Fianna Steves. Steves sent the ball into the cage to put the Warriors down 15-8. Coker continued to pepper the cage as Hailey Morgan and Amanda Arguello took shots that hit the cross bar and were blocked. Amariah Lawson scored the eighteenth goal of the game to put the Cobras on top by ten.
The Cobras would not relent their attacks, taking a 20-8 goal lead on a free position goal by Amanda Arguello. They continued to attack as Amariah Lawson took a shot on the goal, but Caroline Lark saved the attack from paying off. Shots by Jocelyn Cosgrove and Anita Renee Rhodes were prevented from making it into the cage by Zoe Cotheran. The Warriors continued to challenge as a foul in the eight meter allowed Yael Echeverria to take another shot on the goal. Her shot made it into the back of the cage for the ninth goal of the game for the Warriors. However, the Warriors dropped the game to the Cobras in a 21-9 final score.
