How It Happened

The Wolves attacked quickly as Sierra Hummell and Serena Elias put in back-to-back goals within the first two minutes of the game.  Newberry would not relent as they put the ball into the back of the cage several more times.  The Warriors fought back as back-to-back goals by Lauryn Esposito and Yael Echeverria allowed Southern Wesleyan to come to 9-2 behind Newberry.  A foul in the eight meter allowed Echeverria to take another shot on the goal, but her shot sailed high.  The Wolves attacked again, but Caroline Lark saved the attack from paying off.

Newberry continued their attacks in the second quarter, but Caroline Lark saved the shot by Emma Jobs.  However, Jobs attacked again and this time her attack found the back of the cage to give the Wolves a ten goal advantage over the Warriors.  The Wolves pushed on as they took a thirteen goal lead on a goal by Jenny Bates.  Southern Wesleyan got the ball down the field and Yael Echeverria scored her second goal of the game to put the Warriors down 15-3 with just over five minutes left in the quarter.  A foul in the eight meter allowed Echeverria to take another shot, but Kaitlyn Lamanna kept the Warriors from cutting into their lead further.  Newberry went on to lead 17-3 at halftime.

The Wolves took the first goal of the third quarter as Marissa Plumer passed the ball over to Ella Todd who put it into the cage to extend Newberry's lead to fifteen goals.  The Warriors fought back as Yael Echeverria won the draw moments later.  Jocelyn Cosgrove took a shot on the goal, but Kaitlyn Lamanna saved the attack from paying off.  Newberry would not relent as back-to-back goals by Emma Jobs and Cassell Richardson extended their lead to 20-3.  The Warriors charged down the field as Cosgrove passed the ball to Lauryn Esposito.  Esposito stepped around the defense and sent the ball into the back of the cage for her second goal of the afternoon.  The Warriors continued to attack as Esposito sent another ball to the cage, but Lamana was able to save that attack from paying off.  Caroline Lark saved another attack on the cage by the Wolves.

Newberry continued to attack the cage in the fourth quarter, but Caroline Lark stood strong in the goal to defend the attacks.  Yael Echeverria put up a shot, but it went wide.  The Warriors followed with a shot out of the stick of Lauryn Esposito, but goalkeeper Mackenzie Dorr saved the attack.  Southern Wesleyan continued to pressure the Newberry defense as Jocelyn Cosgrove took a shot on the goal, but once again Mackenzie Dorr saved the ball from reaching the back of the cage.  The Wolves countered with an attack of their own as Lana Howell took a shot on the goal, but once again Caroline Lark prevented their attack from paying off.  However, Newberry's attacks paid off as they scored their first goal of the fourth quarter out of the stick of Jenny Bates.  Newberry went on to win the game in a 22-4 final score.
