Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Barton Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon in a 23-5 final score.
The Warriors took 12 shots with eight being on goal.
Lauryn Esposito led the team with seven shots, four of which were on goal.
Jocelyn Cosgrove followed with two shots on goal. Esposito went on to lead the team with four goals. Cosgrove picked up the final goal for the Warriors.
Yael Echeverria recorded both assists of the game.
Southern Wesleyan collected 13 ground balls.
Caroline Lark led the team with four ground balls with both
Lauryn Esposito and
Mack Moreau following with two.
Lexi Richardson led the team in caused turnovers with two. Lark played forty minutes in the goal and had four saves.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan attacked the cage quickly as
Yael Echeverria passed the ball over to
Jocelyn Cosgrove who put it into the back of the cage to give the Warriors an early lead. Barton countered with shots by Danielle Lester and Reagan Kemppainen, but
Caroline Lark and the Warriors' defense thwarted their attack The Bulldogs' attacks paid off as Annabelle Chuilli put the ball into the cage. Echeverria took a shot on the goal, but Avery Gandolf saved the attack. Southern Wesleyan regained the lead as
Lauryn Esposito scored her first goal of the game. The lead was short lived as Kate Matuza scored to tie the game back up. Barton would not relent as they scored six more times to lead 8-2 at the end of the first quarter.
The Bulldogs pushed further ahead in the second quarter as a free position shot by Taryn Ugliono reached the back of the cage. Barton would not relent as goals by Ugliono, Samantha Serio and Sydney Quinn gave them a ten goal advantage to force a running clock. A foul in the eight meter allowed
Jocelyn Cosgrove to take a free position shot, however Avery Gandolf saved the attack. Southern Wesleyan continued to push as
Lauryn Esposito put the ball into the cage for the second time of the game. However, Barton pushed ahead to lead 16-3 at halftime.
Barton pushed ahead in the third quarter as a free position goal by Sydney Quinn extended their lead to fourteen. The Bulldogs extended their lead further. However, the Warriors countered as
Yael Echeverria passed the ball to
Lauryn Esposito. Esposito sent the ball into the back of the cage to put the Warriors down 19-4. Seconds later, Esposito sent another ball toward the cage, however it hit off the post to keep Southern Wesleyan from chipping down on Barton's lead any further.
Avery Woodcock took the first goal of the fourth quarter to allow the Bulldogs to extend their lead to 21-4. Southern Wesleyan countered as
Mack Moreau took a shot on the goal, but Savannah Graves saved the attack from paying off. Barton continued to pressure the Warriors defense, but
Caroline Lark save the attack by Bridgid Boyle.

What's Next
The Warriors will remain at home on March 14 as they host Alliance University at 5 p.m. They will then resume Conference Carolinas action on March 18 as they host the Chowan Hawks at 1 p.m. Southern Wesleyan will then travel to Franklin Springs, GA on March 25 to take on the Emmanuel Lions. The Warriors will return home on April 1 to take on the North Greenville Crusaders.
