Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell in both games of the double header against the Barton Bulldogs on Friday in 12-4 and 19-7 final scores.
The Warriors collected seven hits in the first game of the series with Talissa Cannady leading the team with two. Addi Johnson had a double and Cannady picked up her first home run of the season. Both Cannady and Johnson had two RBIs. Charity Dennis was the lone Warrior to walk. Emma Jo Wolfe started game one and pitched four innings while striking out two batters. Both Ella Grace Lawton and Jaelyn Montfort came in to pitch in relief.
Southern Wesleyan picked up nine hits in game two of the afternoon. Four Warriors posted two hits on the day. Emma Jo Wolfe, Addi Johnson and Ryanne Yarborough all doubled, and Sarah Prater picked up her second home run of the season. Both Yarborough and Prater had two RBIs. The Warriors walked seven times and Johnson stole a base. Autumn Barnhardt started on the mound for the Warriors and pitched five innings while striking out three batters. Jaelyn Montfort followed with two strikeouts on the day.

How It Happened
Game One
Barton took the early lead as they plated three runs in the top of the first inning. They continued to push ahead as they brought in five more runs in the top of the fourth.
Southern Wesleyan countered in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out, Charity Dennis walked. Talissa Cannady then drilled the ball over the left field wall to bring in two runs and put the Warriors down 8-2.
However, runs in the top of the sixth and seventh innings allowed Barton to extend their lead to 12-2.
The Warriors continued to pressure in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, Charity Dennis reached on an error. A second error allowed Talissa Cannady to reach first and advanced Dennis to second. A passed ball allowed both runners to advance to within scoring position. Addi Johnson then knocked a double to left field to bring both Dennis and Cannady in to score. However, the Warriors fell to the Bulldogs in a12-4 final score.
Game Two
The Bulldogs carried on their intensity in game two as they brought in runs in the top of the first, second, third and fourth innings.
However, the Warriors would not go down quietly as they attacked the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning. Emma Jo Wolfe led off the inning with a single to center field. She then advanced to second on a single through the left side by Talissa Cannady. Addi Johnson singled to center filed to load up the bases. With the bases loaded, Ryanne Yarborough doubled to right field to bring Wolfe and Cannady across home plate. A passed ball then allowed Johnson to score and put Yarborough on third bases. Kori Rominger reached first on an error by the second baseman that allowed Yarborough to come in and score. With Rominger on first, Sarah Prater hit a home run over the center field wall to put the Warriors back within three runs of the Bulldogs. With two outs, Charity Dennis walked. A double to left center field by Emma Jo Wolfe brought Dennis home to put the Warriors down 9-7.
Barton did not relent as they scored again in the sixth and seventh innings to win the final game of the series in a 19-7 final score.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will host the Chowan Hawks on March 25 at 2 and 4:30 pm. They will then travel down the road to Due West, SC to take on the Erskine Flying Fleet on March 28. The Warriors will face the University of Mount Olive Trojans on April 1 in Mount Olive, NC.
