Pembroke, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the UNC Pembroke Braves in both games of their Conference Carolinas opener on Friday in 8-0 and 7-0 final scores.
The Warriors collected five hits in the first game of the afternoon.
Emma Jo Wolfe led the team with two hits.
Addi Johnson picked up a stolen base.
Andi Grae Wingate started the first game and pitched two innings while striking out one batter. Both Wolfe and
Ella Grace Lawton came in to pitch in relief.
Southern Wesleyan recorded four hits in the second game of the afternoon of the bates of
Talissa Cannady,
Addi Johnson,
Ryanne Yarborough and
Madison Keefer. Yarborough doubled during the game. The Warriors walked twice.
Autumn Barnhardt started game two and pitched 4.2 innings while striking out two batters. Both
Jaelyn Montfort and
Ella Grace Lawton came in to pitch in relief.

How It Happened
Game One
UNC Pembroke took the first run of the game as a sacrifice bunt by Allred allowed Sheppard to come in to score to give them an early 1-0 run lead. Southern Wesleyan challenged in the top of the third inning as singles by
Autumn Barnhardt and
Addi Johnson put runners within scoring position, however the Braves persevered as they struck out the side to keep the Warriors off the board. The Braves continued their attacks in the bottom of the second, third, fourth and fifth innings to win the first game in an 8-0 final score.
Game Two
The Braves struck first once again as a triple by Hilbourn put them on the board in the bottom of the second inning.
Ryanne Yarborough knocked a double to right center in the second inning, but the Braves kept the following batters from being able to bring her across home plate. The Braves went on to score in the third, fifth and sixth innings to allow them to claim a 7-0 run victory.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on March 18 as they travel to Florence, SC to take on the Francis Marion Patriots at 2 and 4 p.m. They will then return to Varsity Field on March 21 to host the King Tornado at 2 and 4:30 p.m. The Warriors will host the Barton Bulldogs and Chowan Hawks on March 24 and 25. They will welcome the Bulldogs to Varsity Field on March 24 for 2 and 4:30 p.m. games and then the Hawks on March 25 for noon and 2:30 p.m. games.
