Five Post Double-Digits as Warriors Take Down Flying Fleet

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan took down the Erskine Flying Fleet on Tuesday evening in an 83-78 final score.

The Warriors shot 54.5% from the field and were 84.9% from the free throw line in the victory.  Tyrin Hollis led the team with 18 points.  He was followed by Bryson Felder with 14 points and Griffin Effenberger with 12.  Both Jamal Edmonson and Raevon Allen had ten points in the game.  The Warriors had 16 assists.  Hollis led the team with six assists.

Southern Wesleyan collected 38 rebounds during the game.  Dyren Brown led the team with 11 rebounds.  Jamal Edmonson recorded three of the four blocks of the game.  Tyrin Hollis followed with a solo blocks.  Both Hollis and Edmonson led the team in steals with two.

How It Happened

The Flying Fleet attacked quickly as Jerome Stephens stepped beyond the arc and hit a three pointer.  However, the Warriors challenged right back as a layup by Griffin Effenberger and jump shot by Jamal Edmonson allowed them to take a 4-3 point lead.  They continued to extend their lead as Edmonson took the ball down the court on a fast break and laid it up into the basket.  Effenberger passed the ball beyond the arc to Bryson Felder who fired off his first three point basket of the evening.  Erskine challenged back as a jump shot by Lanyc Shuler put them back within six points of the Warriors.  A three pointer by Jalen Canada allowed the Flying Fleet to take the lead.  However, a three pointer by Bryson Felder pushed Southern Wesleyan back on top by four points.  Dyren Brown hit a jump shot to extend the Warriors lead to six with just over eleven minutes left in the half.  Erskine would not go down quietly as a three pointer by Canada kept them within four points.  Marcus Long hit a three pointer.  A layup by Griffin Effenberger extended the Warriors lead to ten points.  With just over two minutes on the clock, Tyrin Hollis stole the ball and then stepped beyond the arc to hit another three pointer for the Warriors.  A dunk by Canada allowed the Flying Fleet to trail the Warriors 42-29 at halftime.

Erskine came out strong in the second half as Jaylen Prioleau laid the ball up into the basket.  However, the Warriors countered with a layup by Tyrin HollisMarcus Long collected a pass from Hollis and laid it up into the basket.  A three pointer by Jalen Robinson allowed the Flying Fleet to stay within ten points of the Warriors.  Southern Wesleyan pushed further ahead as a jump shot by Bryson Felder gave the Warriors a 56-43 point advantage.  Dyren Brown laid the ball up into the basket.  Erskine increased the intensity as Jalen Canada stepped beyond the arc and hit another three point shot.  Tyrin Hollis sent the ball down the court to Dyren Brown who laid it up into the basket.  The Flying Fleet continued to chip away at the Warriors lead as both Jalen Robinson and Tavis Bridges laid the ball up into the basket.  However, Raevon Allen collected a pass from Marcus Long and stepped beyond the arc to sink a three pointer.  Southern Wesleyan went on to win the game in an 83-78 final score.
 


 
What's Next

The Warriors will travel to Spartanburg, SC to take on the Converse Valkyries on February 11 at 4 p.m.  They will return home on February 15 to host the Lees-McRae Bobcats at 7 p.m.  Southern Wesleyan will wrap up their homestead as they host the Barton Bulldogs on February 18.  They will then travel to Bristol, TN on February 22 to take on the King Tornado for the final regular season game of the year.
