Coach Davis says…

"Great team win against a good Emmanuel team.  We persevered throughout the game.  I was really proud of our start to the third quarter on both ends.  Rebounding has to be better for us to keep moving forward, but we will enjoy this and prepare for Erskine on Tuesday night."

How It Happened

Emmanuel jumped out early as Jeanetta Elder put up a jump shot.  The Lions would not relent as three pointers by Jazmin Allen allowed them to extend their lead to 9-0 with just under seven minutes left in the first quarter.  Back-to-back baskets by Alexis Glover allowed the Warriors to get on the board.  However, the Lions continued to shut down the Warriors offense.  A layup by Sydney Wyatt extend the Lions lead to 18-4.  A last second layup by Allie Newberry allowed the Warriors to stay within twelve points.

Lexi Greffen collected the ball from Tristen Berry and put up a jump shot to put the Warriors down 22-12 at the beginning of the second quarter.  The Warriors continued to chip away at the Lions lead on a jump shot by Berry.  Emmanuel regained their ten point lead on a three point basket by Sydney Wyatt.  However, a three pointer by Shelby Glance put the Warriors back within seven points of the Lions.  Brooke Henricks passed the ball beyond the arc to Caroline Reese who put up a three pointer to put Southern Wesleyan down three with just over a minute left in the second quarter.  A last second three point basket by Allie Newberry put the Warriors down 33-29 at halftime.

The Warriors came out fighting in the third quarter as Allie Newberry laid the ball up.  A jump shot by Brittany Mack seconds later allowed the Warriors to tie the game up 33-33.  Mack drove to the net once again and laid the ball up into the basket to put Southern Wesleyan on top for the first time in the game.  The Warriors maintained the pressure as Tristen Berry collected a pass from Lexi Greffen and stepped beyond the arc to hit her first three pointer of the evening.  However, the Lions were able to tie the game up shortly afterwards on a free throw by Abby Crawford.  Shelby Glance stole the ball away and passed the ball down the court to Brittany Mack who put up a jump shot to give the Warriors a 44-42 point lead.  Jazmin Allen laid the ball up for the Lions to push them ahead.

Southern Wesleyan was not discouraged by the lead as Brittany Mack kicked off the final quarter of play with a three point shot to tie the game up.  Allie Newberry passed the ball beyond the arc to Tristen Berry who sunk another three pointer to give the Warriors a three point advantage.  The Warriors continued to distance themselves as Brittany Mack knocked down a three pointer.  Back-to-back baskets by Ade'jah James and Sydney Wyatt allowed the Lions to stay within four points.  However, a jump shot by Lexi Greffen pushed the Warriors lead back up to six with just under five minutes left on the clock.  Abby Crawford knocked down another three point shot for the Lions.  However, free throw baskets in the final seconds of the game allowed the Warriors to claim a 76-71 final score victory.
