Greeneville, TN – Southern Wesleyan dropped both games in the double header against Tusculum on Friday afternoon in an 11-3 and 13-4 final scores.
The Warriors collected eight hits in the game one loss to the Pioneers.
Ryanne Yarborough doubled in the game. Southern Wesleyan walked once, and both
Emma Jo Wolfe and
Emmy Copeland stole bases.
Andi Grae Wingate started on the mound for the Warriors and pitched four innings while striking out two batters.
Southern Wesleyan recorded four hits in the second game against Tusculum.
Charity Dennis doubled. The Warriors walked once.
Autumn Barnhardt started game two and pitched two innings.
Emma Jo Wolfe and
Jaelyn Montfort came in to pitch in relief. Wolfe led the team with two strikeouts.

How It Happened
Game One
Tusculum took the first runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning. A double by Smeltzer allowed Newport to come across home plate, and then a sacrifice fly out by Sappington scored Smeltzer to give the Pioneers an early 2-0 run advantage.
The Warriors cut the Pioneers lead in half in the top of the third inning. With one out,
Emmy Copeland singled down the left field line. Copeland then stole second base.
Addi Johnson singled to center field to bring Copeland in to score. Back-to-back singles by
Talissa Cannady and
Autumn Barnhardt allowed the Warriors to load up the bases and bring
Andi Grae Wingate up to bat. Wingate drilled the ball to left center field for a single that brought both Johnson and Cannady in to score to put the Warriors on top by one run.
The lead was short lived as Tusculum scored in the bottom of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to win the game in an 11-3 final score.
Game Two
The Pioneers struck first once again in the second game as they brought three runs in to score in the bottom of the first inning. They extended their lead by two runs in the bottom of the second inning.
The Warriors scored in the top of the third inning.
Kori Rominger led off the inning with a walk and then advanced to third on a double through the right side by
Charity Dennis.
Emmy Copeland then singled to center field to bring Rominger in to score. Copeland advanced to second on the throw to home and Dennis advanced to third. With both runners in scoring position,
Addi Johnson hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring Dennis in.
Talissa Cannady reached on an error to bring Copeland home. With Cannady on third,
Autumn Barnhardt flew out to left field to bring in Southern Wesleyan's fourth run and put them back within run of Tusculum.
The Pioneers extended their lead with runs crossing home plate in the bottom of the third, fourth and fifth innings. Tusculum went on to win the second game in a 13-4.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on February 28 as they travel to Columbus, GA to take on the Columbus State Cougars at 3 and 5 pm. They will then travel to Young Harris, GA to take on the Young Harris Mountain Lions on March 9. The Warriors will open up Conference Carolinas action on March 17 and 18. They will travel to Pembroke, NC on March 17 to take on the UNC Pembroke Braves and then down to Florence, SC on March 18 to take on the Francis Marion Patriots.
