Four Post Double Digits as Warriors Fall to Bulldogs

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Barton Bulldogs on Saturday evening in an 104-86 final score.

The Warriors shot 45.3% from the field and were 36.4% from beyond the arc.  Raevon Allen led the team with 21 points.  Allen was followed by Jamal Edmonson with 17 points, Bryson Felder with 14 points and Dyren Brown with 11 points.  Southern Wesleyan had 11 assists with Tyrin Hollis leading the team with four.  Hollis was followed by Brown with three assists.

Southern Wesleyan pulled down 31 rebounds.  Dyren Brown led the team with 17 rebounds to give him a double-double game.  The Warriors had three blocks and picked up four steals during the game.

How It Happened

The Bulldogs took the first points on a three pointer by Donaven Hairston.  Southern Wesleyan countered with back-to-back layups by Raevon Allen and Bryson Felder to put the Warriors ahead 4-3.  Marcus Boykin laid the ball up to tie the game.  The Warriors pushed ahead as Dyren Brown passed the ball beyond the arc to Allen who put up a three point shot.  However, Reese McDonald laid the ball up to allow the Bulldogs to take an 11-8 point lead.  Southern Wesleyan continued to challenge with layups by Felder and Brown.  Raevon Allen collected a defensive rebound and raced down the court to sink a jump shot.  Marcus Boykin hit a jump shot, but a layup by Allen allowed the Warriors to stay within three points of the Bulldogs.  Bryson Felder stepped beyond the arc and hit a three pointer.  Donaven Hairston put up back-to-back shots to extend their lead to nine points.  A three pointer by Griffin Effenberger allowed the Warriors to cut the Bulldogs lead down to four.  Barton continued to distance themselves with layups by Shawn Nelson and Miguel Shaw.  Effenberger passed the ball over to Jamal Edmonson who stepped beyond the arc to hit a three pointer.  Hairston laid the ball up in the paint to keep the Bulldogs on top by eleven.  Raevon Allen hit last second free throws to put the Warriors behind the Bulldogs 53-43 at halftime.

Southern Wesleyan kicked off the second half with a fast break dunk by Raevon Allen.  With just over seventeen minutes left on the clock, Marcus Boykin hit a jump shot.  Jamal Edmonson laid the ball up into the basket.  Dyren Brown passed the ball beyond the arc to Tyrin Hollis.  Hollis put up a three point shot to put the Warriors back within one point of the Bulldogs.  A jump shot by Donaven Hairston allowed Barton to take a three point lead.  However, a layup by Edmonson put the Warriors back within one.  Boykin and Hairston hit back-to-back shots to push the Bulldogs back ahead by eight points.  Dyren Brown sunk a three pointer with just under ten minutes left on the clock.  Raevon Allen laid the ball up into the basket, but a layup by Marcus Boykin gave the Bulldogs a 77-69 point lead.  Donaven Hairston hit another three pointer to push Barton's lead back up to eleven.  Tyrin Hollis sent the ball down the court to Marcus Long, who stepped beyond the arc to hit a three pointer.  Back-to-back layups by Dyren Brown and Tyrin Hollis allowed the Warriors to come to within twelve points of the Bulldogs.  However, Barton went on to win the game in an 104-86 final score.

Southern Wesleyan will wrap up the regular season on February 22 as they travel to Bristol, TN to take on the King Tornado.
