Warriors Drop Final Regular Season Game to Tornado

Bristol, TN – Southern Wesleyan fell to the King Tornado in the final regular season game of the 2022-23 season in a 96-86 final score.

The Warriors shot 51.5% from the field in the loss and went 36.4% from beyond the arc.  Tyrin Hollis led the team with 25 points.  He was followed by Jamal Edmonson with 20 points and Raevon Allen with 10.  The Warriors posted 12 assists with Allen leading the team with five.  He was followed by Hollis with three.

Southern Wesleyan pulled down 32 rebounds during the game with Jamal Edmonson leading the team with seven.  Tyrin Hollis followed with six rebounds, with both Raevon Allen and Dyren right on his heels with five.  Both Edmonson and Bryson Felder picked up blocks.  The Warriors stole the ball six times with Hollis recording three.

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan struck quickly as Raevon Allen put up a shot from beyond the arc.  However, the Tornado countered with a pull up good jump shot on a basket by Brandon Lamberth.  Dyren Brown laid the ball up into the basket to put the Warriors ahead 5-2.  Southern Wesleyan continued to extend their lead on layups by Jamal Edmonson and Tyrin Hollis.  Michael Mays stepped beyond the arc for a three pointer to put the Tornado back within three points of the Warriors.  Edmonson stepped beyond the arc for a three pointer.  Mays laid the ball back up for the Tornado.  Griffin Effenberger passed the ball under the net to Edmonson who laid it up into the basket.  Tyrin Hollis stepped beyond the arc to hit a three pointer.  Southern Wesleyan took a ten point lead on a three pointer by Effenberger.  However, a pull up jump shot by Darron Howard kept the Tornado within eight.  Hollis drove the ball to the basket for a layup.  The Warriors continued to push with layups by Raevon Allen and Marcus Long.  With just over eight minutes left on the clock, Jamal Edmonson laid the ball up to put the Warriors ahead 33-24.  Michael Mays hit back-to-back baskets.  Hollis passed the ball over to Griffin Effenberger who stepped beyond the arc to hit a three pointer.  The Tornado continued to chip away at the Warriors lead as Mays put up a floating jump shot to put King within one point.  Jamal Edmonson laid the ball up to put Southern Wesleyan ahead 46-42 at halftime.

King took the first point of the half as a jump shot by Brandon Lamberth put them back within two points of Southern Wesleyan.  Michael Mays stepped beyond the arc to hit a three pointer.  However, Jamal Edmonson drove the ball to the basket and laid it up.  Mays and Jaylen Bernard laid the ball up to give King a two point lead.  Darron Howard sunk a three.  However, the Warriors challenged as layups by Tyrin Hollis and Jamal Edmonson kept Southern Wesleyan within three points.  Bryson Felder drove the ball to the net.  However, a pull up jump shot by Mays extended the Tornado lead to six.  Marcus Long hit back-to-back layups to keep Southern Wesleyan within five.  Griffin Effenberger laid the ball up with ten minutes on the clock to put the Warriors down 69-61.  Bryson Felder and Raevon Allen laid the ball up into the basket.  Myles McCrary put up a layup for the Tornado.  Southern Wesleyan continued to pressure the King defense and Raevon Allen drove the ball to the basket for a layup.  Allen passed the ball over to Bryson Felder who stepped beyond the arc to sink a three to put the Warriors back within four points with just under seven minutes left on the clock.  Dyren Brown hit a three pointer of his own.  King would not relent as Michael Mays drove to the net once again.  Southern Wesleyan fought back as back-to-back baskets by Jamal Edmonson and Tyrin Hollis put the Warriors down 84-82 with just under two minutes left.  However, the Tornado wet on a run as layups by Brandon Lamberth and Jaylen Bernard put them back ahead by nine.  King went on to win the game in a 96-86 final score.
