Southern Wesleyan Drops First Two Games in Bobcat Battle

Milledgeville, GA – Southern Wesleyan fell in the first two games of the Bobcat Battle on Friday afternoon.  They dropped game one to the Georgia College Bobcats in a 5-2 final.  The Warriors dropped the second game against the Mars Hill Lions in a 9-0 final score.

The Warriors totaled five hits in the first game of the afternoon.  Andi Grae Wingate doubled.  Both Emma Jo Wolfe and Ryanne Yarborough picked up RBIs in the loss.  Addi Johnson and Talissa Cannady stole bases during the game.  Wingate pitched a complete game, striking out two over six innings of work.

Southern Wesleyan picked up three hits in the game against Mars Hill.  Addi Johnson stole two bases while Autumn Barnhardt stole one.  Barnhardt started on the mound for the Warriors and struck out one batter.  Ella Grace Lawton led the team with two strikeouts.

How It Happened

SWU vs Georgia College
The Bobcats struck quickly as a single by Hoffman brought Lancaster in to score to give them a 1-0 run advantage.  They extended their lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

Southern Wesleyan challenged back in the top of the fourth inning.  With one out, Andi Grae Wingate doubled to left center field.  A single by Ryanne Yarborough allowed Wingate to cross home plate and put the Warriors back within one run of the Bobcats.

The Warriors tied the game up in the top of the sixth inning.  Talissa Cannady led off the inning with a single to second base.  Cannady then stole second to put her in scoring position.  With two outs, Emma Jo Wolfe singled to left field to bring Cannady home and allow the Warriors to tie the game up.

However, Georgia College brought three more run in to score in the bottom of the sixth inning to win the game in a 5-2 final.

 
SWU vs Mars Hill
The Lions of Mars Hill struck quickly as they plated two runs in the bottom of the second inning.  They extended their lead with runs in the bottom of the fourth and third innings.  Mars Hill went on to win the game in a 9-0 final.
 


 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will continue in the Bobcat Battle on February 18.  They will face the Georgia College Bobcats at 11 am and then the Mars Hill Lions at 1:30 pm.  The Warriors will then return to Varsity Field on February 21 to take on the Augusta Jaguars at 2 and 4 p.m.  They will travel to Greeneville, TN on February 25 to take on the Tusculum Pioneers.
