Felder Hits 20 Points as Warriors Fall to Braves

Pembroke, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the UNC Pembroke Braves on Wednesday evening in an 86-64 final score.

The Warriors shot 42.1% from the field in the game.  Bryson Felder led the team with 20 points.  He was followed by Tyrin Hollis with 14.  Southern Wesleyan collected 11 assists in the loss.  Both Hollis and Griffin Effenberger led the team with three.  Jamal Edmonson followed with two assists.

Southern Wesleyan pulled down 25 rebounds with Tyrin Hollis leading the team with six.  Both Bryson Felder and Jamal Edmonson followed with four rebounds.  The Warriors collected 12 steals in the game.

How It Happened

The Braves attacked quickly as JaJuan Carr hit an early three point shot.  UNC Pembroke pushed their lead to five on a jump shot by Jakari Gallon.  Raevon Allen passed the ball under the net to Tyrin Hollis who laid it up into the basket to put the Warriors on the board.  A three pointer by Bradlee Haskell allowed the Braves to take a ten point lead.  Southern Wesleyan challenged back as Allen laid the ball up into the basket for the Warriors.  UNC Pembroke would not relent their attacks as a dunk by Nygell Verdier extended their lead to 25-12.  Tyrin Hollis stepped beyond the arc to hit his first three pointer of the evening.  Hollis remained strong as he stole the ball away and laid it up into the basket to put the Warriors back within ten points of the Braves.  The Warriors continued to chip away at the Braves lead as Griffin Effenberger laid the ball up into the basket.  Javonte Waverly stepped beyond the arc to hit a three pointer.  However, Bryson Felder hit back-to-back jump shots for the Warriors.  Jamal Edmonson stole the ball and passed it down the court to Raevon Allen who laid it up into the basket to put the Warriors down 37-28.  Felder put up a jump shot to put them within eight points of the Braves.  Despite a last second layup by Tyrin Hollis, the Warriors trailed the Braves 42-32 at halftime.

The Braves continued their pressure in the second half as Cortez Marion-Holmes laid the ball up into the basket.  Southern Wesleyan countered as Tyrin Hollis stole the ball away yet again and passed it down the court to Marcus Long.  Long put up a jump shot to keep the Warriors within ten points.  Hollis laid the ball up into the basket, but the Braves countered with a jump shot by Elijah Cobb.  Dyren Brown put up a jump shot to keep the Warriors within twelve points of the Braves with just over fifteen minutes left on the clock.  Bradlee Haskell and JaJuan Carr each hit shots for the Braves.  However, the Warriors pressed on as Tyrin Hollis passed the ball under the net to Griffin Effenberger.  Effenberger put up a jump shot to put the Warriors down 62-45.  Jamal Edmonson followed with a layup of his own.  The Braves distanced themselves from the Warriors, but Southern Wesleyan continued to put up a fight as Bryson Felder collected a pass from beyond the arc and hit a three point shot.  Felder hit a second three to put the Warriors down twenty with just over three minutes left on the clock.  The Braves went on to win the game in an 86-64 final score.


 
 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on February 4 as they travel to Franklin Springs, GA to take on the Emmanuel Lions at 4 p.m.  They will then return home on February 7 to host the Erskine Flying Fleet at 7 p.m.  The Warriors will travel to Spartanburg, SC on February 11 to take on the Converse Valkyries.
