Clemson, SC – Southern Wesleyan's Women's Track and Field team broke two school records and had one individual win an event in the first meet of the 2023-24 campaign.

Track Events
60 Meters: In the preliminaries of the 60 meters, Makayla Wilson led the team with a time of 7.875 to put her in 30th. She was followed by Kyla Johnson and Alyse Davis. Johnson finished in 41st with a time of 8.121 and Davis was right on her heels with a time of 8.124 to take 42nd place. Cianna Laginestra finished in 45th with a time of 8.22. Finishing with a time of 8.80, Zy'Adria Johnson finished in 50th.
60 Meter Hurdles: TraVon Lay finished in 24th in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.58.
200 Meters: Sophomore Makayla Wilson led the Warriors in the women's 200 meters as she finished with a time of 26.66 to put her in 39th place. Alyse Davis was the next Warrior to finish. Davis took 48th with a time of 27.05. Cianna Laginestra took 50th with a time of 27.33
300 Meters: Senior Kyla Johnson led the Warriors in the 300 meters on Friday as she took 29th with a time of 42.96. Johnson was followed by TraVon Lay with a time of 43.57 for 30th place. Lauryn Tate wrapped up the field for the Warriors as her time of 45.00 allowed her to finish in 32nd place.
600 Meters: Haley Morgan finished in 11th in the 600 meters with a time of 1:54.17.
Mile: Abbey Frock led the whole field in the mile run as she finished in first place with a time of 5:30.10. Her time beat her previous personal best time by ten seconds. Behind Frock, Emma Dixon finished in 5th with a time of 6:00.31 and Gisselle Lopez finished in 10th with a time of 6:33.35
1000 Meters: Freshman Evelyn Gordon broke the school record in the 1000 meters on Friday afternoon. She finished the 1000 meters with a time of 3:13.70 to take 12th place.
3000 Meters: Merritt Smith set the new school record in the 3000 meters as she took 7th with a time of 10:58.26. Divinity Ervin claimed 17th with a time of 12:02.47.
Field Events
Long Jump: Southern Wesleyan was led by Makayla Wilson in the long jump on Friday as she finished in 17th with a jump of 4.88 meters. Behind her, freshman Zy'Adria Johnson finished in 19th with a jump of 4.68 meters.
Shot Put: Freshman Gracie Wilson led the Warriors in the shot put as she threw a distance of 9.06 meters. She was followed by teammates Lakin Long and Alexandria Luther. Long took 18th with a throw of 8.80 meters and Luther finished in19th with a throw of 8.58 meters. Layla-Gray Bennett wrapped up the field as he threw of 7.35 meters put her in 21st place.
Weight Throw: Lakin Long took 18th in the weight throw with a throw of 9.26 meters. She was followed by Alexandria Luther with a throw of 8.13 meters. Layla-Grey Bennett wrapped up the field for Warriors as she took 20th with a throw of 7.01 meters.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will enter winter break and return to the track on January 13 as they travel to Columbia, SC to take part in the Gamecock Opener. They will then travel to Lexington, VA to take part in the VMI Collegiate Challenge on January 20th.
