How It Happened
The Trojans charged out of the gate with layups by Ashlyn Sheridan and Diamond McDowell. Tristen Berry stole the ball away and laid it up into the basket to put the Warriors within two. However, a three pointer by Brittney Stafford extended Anderson's lead to five. Southern Wesleyan challenged back as Dynasty Shegog and Lexi Greffen each laid the ball up into the basket. Shegog collected a pass from Taylin Smith and stepped beyond the arc to hit a three pointer. Anderson distanced themselves from Southern Wesleyan with three pointers by Stafford and McDowell. Back-to-back three pointers by Kaliah Kendrick put the Warriors back within nine.
Anderson kicked off the second quarter with a jump shot by Diamond McDowell. They took a twenty point lead on a three pointer by Brittney Stafford off an assist by Nelliah Wilson. Alexis Glover laid the ball up into the basket and then Shelby Glance stepped beyond the arc to hit a three pointer. Taylin Smith stepped beyond the arc and knocked down a three pointer. A second three pointer by Smith put the Warriors within twenty-two. Despite last second baskets by Asia Pearly and Lexi Greffen, the Warriors trailed the Trojans 56-33 at halftime.
A jump shot by Brittney Stafford allowed the Trojans to take a 25-point lead to start the third quarter. They continued to push ahead with layups by Nelliah Wilson and Diamond McDowell. Southern Wesleyan fought back with baskets by Lexi Greffen and Tristen Berry. Kaliah Kendrick laid the ball up into the basket with just under six minutes left in the quarter. Back-to-back layups by Asia Pearly put the Warriors down 70-44. Stafford stepped beyond the arc and a hit a three point shot. Shelby Glance collected a pass from Greffen and stepped beyond the arc to hit a three pointer.
Southern Wesleyan kicked off the fourth quarter with a layup by Shelby Glance. Brittney Stafford passed the ball over to Zamiya Passmore who sunk a three to extend the Trojans lead to thirty-three points. The Warriors fought back with baskets by Glance and Alexis Glover. Anderson would not back down as Peytyn Oliver sunk a three pointer to give the Trojans their 100th point of the game. Tristen Berry stole the ball away from the Trojans and passed the ball over to S'Moriyah Rice who put up a jump shot. Southern Wesleyan fell to Anderson in a 105-71 final score.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will travel to Spartanburg, SC on November 27 to take on the Wofford Terriers in exhibition play. The Warriors will then take on the Virginia State Trojans on November 29 in Historic Tysinger Gymnasium at 5 pm. They will kick off Conference Carolinas action on December 2 as they travel to Pembroke, NC to take on the UNC Pembroke Braves at 2 pm.
