How It Happened

The Eagles took the first point on a jump shot by John Zhao, however a jump shot by Che Smith seconds later allowed the Warriors to tie the game up.  Carson-Newman pushed on, but a three pointer by Griffen Effenberger allowed the Warriors to stay within two points of the Eagles.  Effenberger passed the ball under the basket to Reco Hallmon who laid it up into the basket.  Ren Dyer put up a dunk to extend their lead to 24-13.  Carson-Newman took a seventeen point lead with just under ten minutes left on the clock, but a layup by Reco Hallmon kept the Warriors within fifteen.  A foul on the play allowed Hallmon to make the and one basket.  Southern Wesleyan continued to chip away as Che Smith laid the ball up into the basket.  The Eagles pushed further ahead to take a 56-41 point lead at the half.

Carson-Newman kicked off the second half with a three point shot by Nick Brenegan.  Reco Hallmon laid the ball up into the basket, and then Griffin Effenberger sunk the ball into the basket from beyond the arc.  A layup by Aaron Tims put the Warriors down 65-48.  Eric Hackett passed the ball down the court to Raevon Allen.  Allen went up and dunked the ball into the basket.  The Eagles extended their lead further on baskets by Bryce Weinmunson and Ben Beeker.  A three pointer by John Zhao gave the Eagles a twenty point advantage.  James Shoenfelt and Reco Hallmon put up baskets with just over five minutes left on the clock.  Despite last minutes three pointers by Shoenfelt and Chad Clark, the Warriors fell to the Eagles in a 108-78 final score.
