Warriors Drop Conference Match to Braves

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell to UNC Pembroke Braves in an 82-58 final score on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors shot 30.4% from the field and were 34.6% from beyond the arc against the Braves.  Tyrin Hollis led the team with 22 points.  He was followed by Marcus Long with 10 points and Bryson Felder with nine.  The Warriors recorded 11 assists with both Hollis and Griffin Effenberger leading the team with three.  They were followed by Long with two.

Southern Wesleyan collected 23 rebounds in the loss.  Bryson Felder led the team with five.  He was followed by Griffin Effenberger with four.  Both Tyrin Hollis and Felder had blocks.  The Warriors stole the ball eight times with Hollis leading the team with three.

How It Happened

The Braves took the early lead as Elijah Cobb hit a three point shot.  However, the Warriors quickly countered as Tyrin Hollis stepped beyond the arc and hit a three point basket.  Southern Wesleyan pressed ahead as Hollis laid the ball up into the basket.  The lead was short lived as Nygell Verdier put up a layup for the Braves.  Three point baskets by Hollis allowed the Warriors to take a 11-10 point lead over the Braves.  However, Cortez Marion-Holmes laid the ball up into the basket to give UNC Pembroke the lead.  The Braves pushed ahead, but a lay up by Montrevious Washington kept the Warriors within three.  UNC Pembroke would not relent as Bradlee Haskell sunk a three with just under eleven on the clock.  Bryson Felder collected a pass from Tyrin Hollis and stepped beyond the arc to make a three point shot.  A last second jump shot by Tariq Shabazz put the Warriors down 34-25 at halftime.

Southern Wesleyan cut UNC Pembroke's lead down to six points as Marcus Long put up a three point shot.  JaJuan Carr laid the ball up into the basket for the Braves.  The Warriors would not relent as Bryson Felder hit a three point shot.  However, a three pointer by KJ Walker allowed the Braves to take a twelve point lead.  The Warriors kept the game within thirteen points on layups by Raevon Allen and Marcus Long.  Bradlee Haskell hit another three pointer for the Braves, but the Warriors countered with a three point shot by Tyrin Hollis.  A dunk by Elijah Cobb extend UNC Pembroke's lead to 55-41 with just under ten minutes on the clock.  Griffin Effenberger put up a shot from beyond the arc to cut the Braves lead down to fifteen points.  The Braves would not relent as KJ Walker put up a three point shot to push UNC Pembroke's lead to twenty points.  UNC Pembroke went on to win the game in a 82-58 final score.
 

 
 
What's Next

The Warriors will hit the road to Belmont, NC on January 11 as they take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders at 7 p.m.  They will remain on the road on January 14 as they take on the Chowan Hawks in Murfreesboro, NC at 4 p.m.  Southern Wesleyan will return home on January 16 as they host the Francis Marion Patriots at 7 p.m.
