Belmont, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in a 77-66 final score on Wednesday evening.
The Warriors shot 43.1% from the field and were 36.4% from beyond the three point line against the Crusaders. Both
Raevon Allen and
Bryson Felder led the team with 20 points. They were followed by
Tyrin Hollis with 18 points. Southern Wesleyan picked up 11 assists with Hollis leading the team with seven. Behind him both Felder and
Dyren Brown had two.
Southern Wesleyan totaled 27 rebounds in the loss.
Dyren Brown led the team with 12.
Griffin Effenberger recorded three of the six steals during the game. He was followed by
Tyrin Hollis with two steals.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan took the first points of the game as
Bryson Felder stepped beyond the arc and hit a three point shot. However, Belmont Abbey quickly countered as Mario Lacy Jr dunked the ball into the basket. The Warriors pushed ahead as
Dyren Brown put up a jump shot. A layup by Mason Taylor allowed the Crusaders to take the lead, but the Warriors were not discouraged as
Raevon Allen laid the ball up into the basket.
Tyrin Hollis put up a shot from beyond the arc to put the Warriors ahead 10-7. The Crusaders challenged as a layup by KJ Garrett put them back within two points of the Warriors. Hollis hit another three to extend the Warriors lead at 18-17. Belmont Abbey pushed on as Ryan Maslow hit a three point shot. Southern Wesleyan chipped away at Belmont Abbey's lead as
Dyren Brown and
Tyrin Hollis each made baskets.
Raevon Allen collected a pass from Brown and dunked it into the basket to put the Warriors down 30-29 to the Crusaders. Wade Jackson hit a three point shot to give the Crusaders a 35-29 point lead at halftime.
Griffin Effenberger kicked off the second half with a jump shot to put the Warriors within four points of the Crusaders. Southern Wesleyan continued to chip away at Belmont Abbey's lead as
Raevon Allen laid the ball up into the basket. Back-to-back layups by Allen and
Bryson Felder put Southern Wesleyan down 40-37.
Tyrin Hollis sent the ball down the court to
Bryson Felder. Felder put up a three point shot to tie the game up. Belmont Abbey countered with back-to-back layups by Mario Lacy Jr. A three point shot by Ryan Maslow allowed the Crusaders to extend their lead to seven points. However, a jump shot by
Raevon Allen allowed the Warriors to cut the Crusaders lead back down to five. Felder hit another three pointer for Southern Wesleyan. Free throws by Mason Taylor and Blake Hadley pushed the Crusaders ahead by eleven with just over eight minutes remaining in the half. Charles Solomon dunked the ball into the basket for the Crusaders.
Raevon Allen collected a pass under the net by
Tyrin Hollis and laid it up. The Warriors continued to put up a fight as Hollis and Felder each hit three point shots. However, Belmont Abbey went on to win the game in a 77-66 final score.
What's Next
Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on January 14 as they travel to Murfreesboro, NC to take on the Chowan Hawks at 4 p.m. The Warriors will return to Central, SC on January 16 as they host the Francis Marion Patriots at 7 p.m. They will then host the Converse Valkyries on January 18 at 7 p.m. Southern Wesleyan will wrap up their homestead on January 21 as they host the University of Mount Olive Trojans at 4 p.m.
