How It Happened
The Trojans took the first points of the game on Wednesday evening as Makayla Kimble laid the ball up into the basket. They pushed ahead on layups by Kimble and Laila Harris to extend their lead to six points. Southern Wesleyan fought back as
Allie Newberry got the ball to
Brittany Mack who fired off a three point shot to put the Warriors down 10-3. The Trojans would not back down as a lay-up by Kaia Simpson gave them a nine point lead.
Alexis Glover collected a pass from
Caroline Reese and put up a jump shot.
Southern Wesleyan kicked off the second quarter with a jump shot by
Shelby Glance, but the Trojans were not discouraged as Michelle Stewart put up a basket to put them ahead 24-13. Mount Olive continued to distance themselves as Laila Harris and Maleiya Hill each made baskets. The Warriors would not back down as
Tristen Berry passed the ball under the basket to
Lexi Greffen. Greffen laid the ball up into the basket. Despite a last second jump shot by
Brittany Mack, the Warriors trailed the Trojans 43-19 at halftime.
Mount Olive took the first point of the third quarter on a free throw by Reagan Hune. The Trojans continued to push ahead with jump shots by Maleiya Hill and Tiandria Tucker.
Nyah Garner put up a pull up jump shot for the Warriors.
Brooke Henricks drove the ball up the court to the basket and laid it up to put them down 61-25 to the Trojans.
The Trojans pushed on ahead as Amber Nealy laid the ball up into the basket.
Shelby Glance hit a turn around jump shot, but Mount Olive countered with a layup by Alyssa Root.
Rachel Page sent the ball under the net to
Alexis Glover. Glover laid the ball up into the basket to put the Warriors down 73-34.
Lexi Greffen put up a jump shot. Mount Olive went on to win the game in an 85-42 final score.
What's Next
The Warriors will return home on January 7 as they host the UNC Pembroke Braves at 2 p.m. They will then travel to Belmont, NC to take on the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey on January 11 at 5 p.m. Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on January 14 as they travel to Murfreesboro, NC to take on the Chowan Hawks. The Warriors will welcome the Francis Marion Patriots to Central, SC on January 16 for their 5 p.m. Martin Luther King Jr Appreciation Game.
