Central, SC – The Warriors dropped an exciting game to the UNC Pembroke Braves on Saturday afternoon in a 74-66 final score.
Southern Wesleyan shot 38.2% from the field and 34.3% from beyond the arc in the loss.
Brittany Mack led the Warriors with 23 points. She was followed by
Shelby Glance with 14 points and
Tristen Berry with nine. The Warriors had 15 assists with Mack, Berry and
Brooke Henricks all picking up three.
The Warriors collected 28 rebounds.
Shelby Glance led them with eight rebounds. Both Glance and
Alexis Glover had blocks in the contest. Southern Wesleyan stole the ball eight times.

How It Happened
Southern Wesleyan kicked off the game with a jump shot by
Brittany Mack. However, the Braves countered to tie it up on a layup by Courtney Smith. Mack passed the ball over to
Tristen Berry who put the ball into the basket from beyond the arc to regain the Warriors' lead. UNC Pembroke challenged, but a layup by Mack allowed Southern Wesleyan to retain their three point advantage.
Shelby Glance hit back-to-back three point shots. Southern Wesleyan continued to distance themselves as a three point shot by
Lexi Greffen gave them a ten point advantage with just over three minutes left in the quarter. The Braves were not discouraged as they chipped away at the Warriors lead on a layup by Hannah Russell and three pointer by Alcenia Purnell.
Brooke Henricks laid the ball up, but a three pointer by Purnell tied the game up 18-18 at the end of the quarter.
Alexis Glover led off the second quarter for the Warriors as a foul allowed her to take free throws. However, the Braves countered with a layup out of the hands of Kalaya Hall.
Brooke Henricks passed the ball beyond the arc to
Lexi Greffen. Greffen put the ball into the basket for her second three point shot of the evening and put the Warriors back within one point of the Braves. Zaria Clark put up a jump shot to extend UNC Pembroke's lead to five points with just under six minutes on the clock. Southern Wesleyan was not discouraged as
Brittany Mack fired off a shot from beyond the arc. Mack laid the ball into the basket and then seconds later sunk another three to put the Warriors back on top 33-32. The Braves fought back, but the Warriors led 35-34 at halftime.
UNC Pembroke took the first points of the third quarter on free throws by Courtney Smith to give them to lead. The Warriors fought back as
Brooke Henricks and
Allie Newberry each laid the ball up into the basket. Zaria Clark laid the ball up to extend the Braves lead to five points.
Shelby Glance collected a pass from
Tristen Berry from beyond the arc and sunk a three pointer.
The Braves extended their lead to 59-44 on a three point shot by Alcenia Purnell. However, the Warriors countered with a three point shot of their own out of the hands of
Caroline Reese. UNC Pembroke distanced themselves with a three pointer by Courtney Smith. Southern Wesleyan maintained the intensity as
Brittany Mack sunk another three. With under five minutes on the clock,
Alexis Glover laid the ball up into the basket. A three pointer by Mack put the Warriors within eleven of the Braves. Southern Wesleyan continued to chip away at the lead as
Shelby Glance put up a jump shot and a three pointer to put them down 71-64. However, the Braves went on to win the game in a74-66 final score.
What's Next
The Warriors will hit the road to Belmont, NC on January 11 as they take on the Belmont Abbey Crusaders at 5 p.m. They will remain on the road on January 14 as they take on the Chowan Hawks in Murfreesboro, NC at 2 p.m. Southern Wesleyan will return home on January 16 as they host the Francis Marion Patriots at 5 p.m.
