Warriors Fall to Trojans on the Road

Mount Olive, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the University of Mount Olive Trojans in a 106-61 final score on Wednesday evening.

The Warriors shot 43.8% from the field on Wednesday evening.  Bryson Felder and Raevon Allen each recorded 14 points.  They were followed by Jamal Edmonson with 11 points and Griffin Effenberger with 10 points.  The Warriors collected 13 assists with both Marcus Long and Tariq Shabazz leading the team with three.

Southern Wesleyan collected 26 rebounds during the game.  Jamal Edmonson led the team with nine.  Edmonson, Marcus Long and Montrevius Washington all had blocks.  Southern Wesleyan had four steals in the loss.

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan kicked off the game with a jump shot by Bryson Felder.  The Trojans countered as Michael Brown laid the ball up into the basket.  Montrevius Washington got the ball to Marcus Long who stepped beyond the arc to make a three point shot and put the Warriors back on top.  Mount Olive picked up the intensity as Shane Peterson and Trayvon Ferrell each sunk three point baskets.  The Warriors kept it close as Raevon Allen hit a three.  Tariq Shabazz passed the ball under the net to Jamal Edmonson.  Edmonson laid the ball up to put the Warriors back within three.  A layup by Bryson Felder put the Warriors down 13-12 with just over fourteen minutes left on the clock.  Mount Olive pushed ahead as Colin Radcliffe hit back to back three pointers for the Trojans.  Southern Wesleyan kept the game within five as Raevon Allen laid the ball up into the basket.  A layup by Jamal Edmonson put the Warriors down 29-22.  Layups by Trayvon Ferrell allowed Mount Olive to extend their lead to nine points.  The Trojans pushed ahead, but a turn around jump shot by Jamal Edmonson put the Warriors down eighteen points.  Mount Olive went on to lead 61-33 at halftime.

A foul allowed the Warriors to take the first point of the second half as Jamal Edmonson made a free throw.  The Warriors chipped away at the Trojans lead as Griffin Effenberger put up a three point basket.  However, the Trojans continued to press ahead as a three pointer by Shane Peterson extended their lead to 66-37.  Brent Randleman put up a three point shot for the Trojans.  Raevon Allen laid the ball up into the basket, but the Trojans continued to push with layups by Trayvon Ferrell and Michael Brown.  Marcus Long passed the ball over to Griffin Effenberger who stepped beyond the arc to put up a three point shot.  The Warriors continued to attack the net as Bryson Felder and Effenberger laid the ball up into the basket.  However, a three point shot by Brent Randleman put the Trojans ahead 90-54.  Felder stepped beyond the arc and put up another three point basket with just over four minutes left on the clock.  A layup by Donte Johnson pushed the Trojans lead to thirty-seven.  Mount Olive went on to win the game in a 106-61 final score.
 


 
What's Next

The Warriors will return home on January 7 as they host the UNC Pembroke Braves at 4 p.m.  They will then travel to Belmont, NC to take on the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey on January 11 at 7 p.m.  Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on January 14 as they travel to Murfreesboro, NC to take on the Chowan Hawks.  The Warriors will welcome the Francis Marion Patriots to Central, SC on January 16 at 7 p.m.
