Warriors Drop Mid-week Road Contest to Crusaders

Tigerville, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell on the road to the North Greenville Crusaders in an 84-68 final score on Tuesday evening.

The Warriors shot 44.8% from the field in the loss.  Tyrin Hollis led the team with 17 points.  He was followed by Dyren Brown and Bryson Felder with 13 points.  Griffin Effenberger was the fourth Warrior in double-digits in scoring as he put in 11 points.  Southern Wesleyan had 14 assists with Hollis and Marcus Long each picking up four.  Effenberger followed with three assists.

Southern Wesleyan pulled down 26 rebounds with Dyren Brown leading the team with 10 to give him a double-double.  Brown was followed by Tyrin Hollis with eight rebounds.  Bryson Felder picked up the lone block of the evening.  The Warriors collected six steals with Griffin Effenberger leading the team with three.

How It Happened

The Warriors jumped out early as Raevon Allen laid the ball up into the basket.  A layup by Dyren Brown allowed Southern Wesleyan to extend their lead to 4-0.  The Warriors maintained the pressure as Tyrin Hollis stepped beyond the arc and hit his first three point shot of the evening.  However, the Crusaders wouldn't go down quietly as Seth Hewitt laid the ball up into the basket.  North Greenville took the lead on a three pointer by Zak Perdew.  Hollis passed the ball beyond the arc to Bryson Felder who put up a three pointer to keep the Warriors within two.  The Crusaders would not relent their attacks as a three pointer out of the hands of Caleb Williams allowed them to take a nine point lead with just under eleven left to play.  Griffin Effenberger sunk the ball from beyond the arc to put the Warriors down 26-17.  Southern Wesleyan pushed on as Bryson Felder hit a three and then a layup.  Felder stepped beyond the arc and hit another three to cut the Crusaders lead down to four points.  However, the Crusaders pushed ahead to lead 40-31 at halftime.

North Greenville maintained their intensity in the second half as CJ Jamison put up a three pointer.  Marcus Long passed the ball under the net to Bryson Felder, who laid it up into the basket to keep the Warriors within ten.  Dyren Brown collected a pass from Griffin Effenberger and put the ball into the net from beyond the arc.  Effenberger then put up a three point shot of his own.  Southern Wesleyan continued to battle North Greenville as they countered their every attack.  Tyrin Hollis put a three pointer to put the Warriors back within eight of the Crusaders.  However, a three pointer by Savion Brown allowed the Crusaders to extend their lead to 56-45 with just under thirteen minutes left on the clock.  Hollis sent the ball under the net to Dyren Brown who laid it up to keep the Warriors within nine.  Marcus Long passed the ball down the court to Raevon Allen who dunked it into the basket to allow the Warriors to come to 62-53 behind the Crusaders.  However, the Crusaders pushed further ahead on layups by Caleb Williams.  Griffin Effenberger laid the ball up into the basket.  However, the Crusaders took a 84-68 victory over the Warriors.


 
 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will remain on the road on February 1 as they travel to Pembroke, NC to take on the UNC Pembroke Braves at 7 p.m.  They will then travel to Franklin Springs, GA on February 4 to take on the Emmanuel Lions.  The Warriors will return home on February 7 to host the Erskine Flying Fleet.
