Warriors Fall to Trojans in Overtime

Central, SC – Southern Wesleyan fell in the overtime to the University of Mount Olive Trojans in a 92-90 final score on Saturday afternoon.

The Warriors shot 44.1% from the field and were 44.8% from beyond the arc in the loss.  Bryson Felder led the team with 29 points.  He was followed by Tyrin Hollis with 19 and Dyren Brown with 16.  Griffen Effenberger wrapped up the double-digit scoring crew with 14 points.  Southern Wesleyan collected 18 assists with Hollis leading the team with eight.  Behind him, Marcus Long picked up five.

Southern Wesleyan pulled down 36 rebounds during the game.  Dyren Brown recorded 14 of the rebounds to give him another double-double game.  Bryson Felder had two of the four blocks.  The other two blocks came off the hands of Dyren Brown and Jamal EdmonsonRaevon Allen led the team with two steals.

How It Happened

Southern Wesleyan jumped out early as Bryson Felder collected a pass from Tyrin Hollis and stepped beyond the arc to hit a three pointer.  However, the Trojans countered with a layup by Trayvon Ferrell.  The Warriors maintained their intensity as Felder and Hollis put up back-to-back three point shots.  A three pointer by Shane Peterson allowed the Trojans to come to one point behind the Warriors with just over sixteen minutes left on the clock.  Dyren Brown laid the ball up into the basket, but a layup by Michael Brown allowed Mount Olive to tie the game back up.  Southern Wesleyan would not back down as a layup by Jamal Edmonson gave the Warriors a five point advantage.  Griffin Effenberger stepped beyond the arc and collected a pass from Marcus Long before putting up three pointer.  Mount Olive continued to chip away at the Warriors lead as a layup by Trayvon Ferrell and three pointer by Colin Radcliffe allowed them to come to one point behind the Warriors once again. Raevon Allen stole the ball away from the Trojans on an in bound and charged down the court before putting up a dunk.  Southern Wesleyan took a nine point lead on a layup by Tyrin Hollis.  With just over two minutes on the clock, Bryson Felder stepped beyond the arc and put up another three to extend Southern Wesleyan's lead to twelve.  Southern Wesleyan led 45-36 at half time.

Mount Olive attacked quickly in the second half as a layup by Michael Brown put them back within seven points of the Warriors.  However, the Warriors countered as Bryson Felder laid the ball up into the basket.  The Trojans would not relent as Trayvon Ferrell laid the ball up.  They came to within four points of the Warriors on a fast break layup by Isaiah Bridges.  Southern Wesleyan challenged right back as Marcus Long passed the ball over to Bryson Felder.  Felder stepped beyond the arc and hit yet another three point shot.  Michael Brown hit a three of his own to allow the Trojans to cut the Warriors lead down to two points with just over thirteen minutes left on the clock.  A layup by Trayvon Ferrell tied the game up 56-56.  Mount Olive pushed ahead on a layup by Michael Brown.  The Warriors countered with a three pointer out of the hands of Bryson FelderTyrin Hollis followed with a layup to cut the Trojans lead down to five.  Bryson Felder dunked the ball into the basket.  The Warriors regained the lead on a layup by Dyren Brown.  Mount Olive took a three point lead on a three pointer by Michael Brown.  However, a last second three from Bryson Felder tied the game up.  Mount Olive regained the lead, but a three pointer at the last second by Griffin Effenberger tied the game up 79-79 to force the game to overtime.

The Warriors struck first as a layup by Tyrin Hollis put them on top.  However, Mount Olive countered with a layup of their own as Trayvon Ferrell put the ball into the basket.  The Warriors pulled ahead on a three pointer by Tyrin Hollis, but the Trojans hit a three pointer of their own to keep the game tied up.  Colin Radcliffe stepped beyond the arc and sunk a three to give the Trojans a 89-86 point lead with just over two minutes left.  However, a layup by Bryson Felder allowed the Warriors to come back to within one point of the Trojans.  Mount Olive went on to win the game in a 92-90 final score.
 

 
 
What's Next

Southern Wesleyan will travel for the next three games.  They will go down the road to Tigerville, SC on January 24 to take on the North Greenville Crusaders at 7 p.m.  The Warriors will then travel to Pembroke, NC to take on the UNC Pembroke Braves at 7 p.m.  They will remain on the road on February 4 to take on the Emmanuel Lions at 4 p.m.
