How It Happened

Converse took the early lead as Jordan Warlick hit a three point shot.  However, the Warriors quickly countered on a layup by Griffin Effenberger.  Converse regained the lead, but back-to-back baskets by Effenberger allowed the Warriors to stay within one point of the Valkyries.  Bosko Bojovic hit back-to-back baskets to extend the Valkyries lead to five points.  However, Effenberger stole the ball away from the Valkyries and passed it down the court to Raevon Allen who laid it up into the basket.  Southern Wesleyan maintained the pressure as Jamal Edmonson put up a layup.  Layups by Tyrin Hollis and Marcus Long allowed the Warriors to come to 19-14 behind Converse with just over eleven minutes left in the first half.  The Warriors would not relent as Bryson Felder stepped beyond the arc and put up a three point shot to give Southern Wesleyan a three point lead.  Hollis put up a three pointer and a jump shot to extend the Warriors lead to 29-25.  Converse maintained the pressure as Uzziah Dawkins laid the ball up.  A last minute three pointer by Tyrin Hollis gave the Warriors a 40-35 point halftime lead.

The Valkyries kicked off the second half with a three pointer by Trey Smith to cut Southern Wesleyan's lead down to two points.  They went on to tie the game up on a layup by Bosko Bojovic.  However, a layup by Jamal Edmonson allowed Southern Wesleyan to keep the game tied.  Edmonson laid the ball up once again, but was fouled on the play to allow him to take the and one shot.  He hit the free throw to put Southern Wesleyan back on top 49-48.  Raevon Allen dunked the ball into the basket.  Edmonson took the ball down the court and laid it up to push the Warriors lead to three points.  A layup by Jay Mitchell put the Valkyries back within one.  However, Marcus Long collected a pass from Tyrin Hollis beyond the arc and fired off a three point shot.  Bojovic laid the ball up into the basket to put the Valkyries two points behind the Warriors.  Converse took the lead on free throws by Bojovic.  However, a fast break layup by Bryson Felder tied the game up.  Despite a last second three pointer by Jamal Edmonson, the Valkyries took the game in a 68-65 final score.
