Glance Collects Career-High 24-Points as Warriors Drop Road Contest to Hawks

Murfreesboro, NC – Southern Wesleyan fell to the Chowan Hawks on Saturday afternoon in a 67-56 final score.

The Warriors went 71.4% from the free throw line in the loss.  Shelby Glance led the team with a career-high 24 points.  Southern Wesleyan collected 12 assists with Brittany Mack leading the team with five.  Behind her both Brooke Henricks and Tristen Berry had two assists.  The Warriors pulled down 38 rebounds during the game with Glance leading the team with nine.  Glance went on to record two of the four blocks.  Mack stole the ball five times.

How It Happened

Chowan attacked the net early as Aniah Patterson put up a three point basket.  The Hawks maintained the pressure before a three point basket by Shelby Glance put the Warriors on the board.  Southern Wesleyan continued to fight back as Alexis Glover put up a jump shot to keep the Warriors within three points.  A three point shot by Shelby Glance allowed the Warriors to tie the game up 10-10.  The Warriors took the lead on a layup by Glance off a pass from Tristen Berry.  The Hawks would not relent as a layup by Meara Carter allowed them to tie the game back up.

The Hawks took the first points of the second quarter, but the Warriors took a 19-17 point lead on a three point shot by Brooke Henricks.  They extended their lead to four points on a layup by Brittany MackShelby Glance stepped beyond the arc and fired off another three point shot to extend the Warriors lead to seven points with just over five minutes left in the quarter.  Chowan was not discouraged as a layup by Yasmine Brown put them within four points.  Glance put up another three pointer for the Warriors.  However, the Hawks fought back as a layup by Keibra Hopkins put them ahead 31-29 at halftime.

Chowan charged out of the gates as they went on a seventeen point run before a layup by Shelby Glance put the Warriors on the board.  Glance hit a jump shot and then a free throw by Lexi Greffen allowed the Warriors to get back within seventeen points of the Hawks.  Chowan would not relent as Demetria Bland stole the ball and took it down the court for a layup.

Southern Wesleyan continued to chip away at Chowan's lead as Brittany Mack made free throw shots.  Tristen Berry stepped beyond the arc and hit her first three point shot of the night.  A jump shot by Lexi Greffen allowed the Warriors to come back to within the ten points of the Hawks with just over six minutes left on the clock.  The Hawks countered with a jump shot by Aniah Patterson.  A layup by Allie Newberry and then a three point shot by Brooke Henricks allowed the Warriors to come to 59-50 behind the Hawks.  Chowan pushed ahead as layups by Imani Hickman extend the Hawks lead back to thirteen.  Despite a late jump shot by Shelby Glance and free throws by Tristen Berry, the Warriors fell to the Hawks in a 67-56 final score.
 
 


 
What's Next

The Warriors will return home on January 16 as they host the Francis Marion Patriots at 5 p.m.  They will then host the Converse Valkyries on January 18 at 5 p.m.  Southern Wesleyan will welcome the University of Mount Olive Trojans to Historic Tysinger Gymnasium on January 21 at 2 p.m.  The Warriors will host their Little Warrior Day event during the game.
